Marple Writers' Workshop Poetry & Short Stories The group started in 1986 as a class run by the W.E.A., very soon became free standing and has met regularly since then. Currently there are about twenty members whose ages range from seventeen to seventy plus. Meetings are friendly and informal and new members are always welcome.
We sometimes invite visiting speakers - these have included poets, novelists, playwrights and a publisher. Most evenings though we organise our own creative writing activities. We do not feel the need to have a formal committee so individuals and small teams of members volunteer to organise events and to run workshops which inspire the group to write at home as well as in the sessions themselves. No one is ever required to share their writing unless they are happy to do so. Abilities range from interested beginners to winners of national short story and poetry competitions. Current membership fees are £5 twice a year at Easter and in September and new attendees are invited to spend several free evenings with us before they join officially. We meet on Tuesday evenings at 7.15 for a 7.30 start in the upstairs room of Marple library. For further information contact: Contact Sylvia Christie Tel
