It would be a great
idea if you could put the new pictures up of the carnival come on it was in June for goodness sake, its
nearly flaming Christmas! Get a move on I'll be old before I know it, but lets not fall out over it
:)
Reply: It's a fair cop, although you wouldn't believe how busy we've been! Anyway, criticism accepted and it'll be done as soon as possible. At least I know where I'm from though :) Mark

Great site! Went to RHCP(1961); The Willows and in year 3 split from the boys and were the first students to attend Woodville School for Girls I then went on to Stockport Tech 1971/72. Have not travelled far I now live in Glossop but have lost touch with all the old gang. PS The Jolly Sailor is being turned into old peoples flats - so who knows we could all end up back there!

I'm currently studying Architectural Conservation and our assignment was to look at Lost Country Houses and to give a bit of history of the houses and occupants. I must give you my utmost thanks for providing this site. It helped me so much with researching Marple Hall. Many Thanks again Matt

I want to thank the person or people who have created this website. It's brilliant; wonderful
pictures, archival work, lovely links. Well done Marpelites! I remembered the name of the road I lived on from 1954-1960 Claremont Ave. Does anyone know what happened to the Cranshaws who lived opposite me? Or the McKays who lived next door? Great memories of walking in Marple and the variety of interesting and historical places to go see. thanks again.

I lived in Rosehill? Marple from the age of 9 yrs until I was 15. I lived with my parents and two brothers. That must have been from about 1954. When I saw your mention of Marple Hall I nearly freaked out. I lived in a house on an "unfinished road" the name of which I cannot remember. It was a house built probably between the wars. It backed onto a farmers field and several ponds with old holly
trees. In spring I remember walking through the farmer's field which was full of buttercups and Lady's smock and fragrant grasses. I used to sit up in a tree at the back smelling the flowers and
listening to the bees and birds. There was a country dirt road that i used to walk down past a pond on my left ( where I used to go fishing for "tiddlers" and watch for frogs, tadpoles and newts) and then another somewhat hidden pond on my right. In spring the road seemed to be lined with old hawthorn trees. the road itself had deep ruts in it and small sort of gravel pebbles. As you went down a slight hill on your right was a hedged garden of some sort. At this point Marple Hall became visible. the wall was high and I could see rooftops and chimneys. the gate was hanging off its one of its hinges and it was a big gate made out of black iron. I would walk into the front area and gaze at this magnificent house. I used to go inside the house and walk through it to look at the view down what seemed like a great cliff at the back of the hall. Looking down to some sort of watery organized pond like area, quite large with what seemed like gullies and even some sort of plan to it with drains? sluices? As a young girl I watched as this fantastic place crumbled, was defaced and pieces picked away from it. No one seemed to know who owned it, or who was ruining it. I remember seeing it through the seasons and how echoes of it past resonated and how I wondered who had lived there and why they had left. A bit like Orlando.

I have changed my address due to excess Spam. I still call in on the web site to see all the new things Mark has put in and all the memories I have of Marple baths, walks, canals, and the terrific country side around Marple, Mellor and Romiley. Keep going Mark, this is great for us people who no longer live there to just pop in and visit.

Noted that somebody else was mentioning the nightlife in Marple I live in Marple and cannot believe that we don't have many winebar restaurants if you look at places like Bramhall and Heaton Moor they have lots of little winebars. I think it must be that people in Marple spend all their money on their house and can't afford to go out, shame really. I think we have a lot of new young families in the area and that maybe another new wine bar would get used a lot but I wouldn't be willing to risk my money on it. There again, there are not that many pubs left in Marple now and the ones that are are not that good there is really only the Crown for ages 18-40 year olds. If Bramhall had our lovely canal I bet there would be a nice wine bar along there!!! Anyone fancy refurbing the British Legion?

My Mum owned a chip-shop on the corner of Elmley St & Chapel St, off Market St in the late 50's (I was at primary school then). Is there a photo anywhere of this street? After living everywhere (!) my wife & I are back to stay, and have been these past 15 years. Excellent site, BTW!!! Cheers, Ritz. :)
