You asked
for suggestions so here goes..... I visit this site often to check for updates. It might be nice to have local club information such as the scouts and brownies plus other clubs. It would also be nice to sort of merge with Marple Mail so that we can access the information here and you can promote your site in the MM. Another thought is to have more local events on the site like library events and clubs events oh and of course the car boots at Rose Hill car park! You will probably see that I am in fact a club but I don't mention all that about local clubs because of this. My club is entirely internet based so wouldn't be a feature for the site even though I am a Marple resident who has designed it and I now have 94 members mostly from the UK. I would like to see the internet become a very useful source for finding out local information. I met three people who live local by joining email lists on the internet. News articles always talk of finding friends from other countries. |

Nice to see Marple after being in exile in New York. Wouldn't mind seeing some more photographs of the town but it's really great to see my old home town on the net at last. Keep up the good work. |

Nice
website - we stayed at Marple at Sinclair Lodge Guest House with Marion
Scott last year - lovely spot. Will be visiting again in 2000. My parents
live at Stockport. Your website has lots of 'content'.

I am researching my Isherwood ancestors of Marple Hall and found the History/Ownership/pictures fascinating! Great job on the website and thank you for helping put pieces into my family history puzzle. It's a shame the place no longer exists. I'll definitely have to visit next time over to the UK. |

Fantastic!
I was just surfing the net and thought that I would see if there was
anything about Marple. what a surprise to find this website! I was born in
Marple (Hollins Green Road) and grew up on Clifton Drive. Although it has
been about 40 years since I left, I still think of Marple as home. Looking
at the pictures brought back many memories of walking the canal paths and
playing in the parks.
If any of my old friends read this, send me an e-mail |

I used to
live at Romiley near Marple in the 1950 and went to the baths with school
at Marple and walked along the canal and up to the Roman Lakes, Been back
a couple of times and do those walks again, I still miss Romiley Marple
and Mellor even after all these years thank you Mark for the web site and
the photos you send me of my old home. When I lived in England my name was
Worthington then and we lived in Cherry tree if any body would like to get
in touch with me I would love to hear from them.
Keep up the good work Mark and thank you....Gail |

Great site
!!
It took me back 20 years, when I visited Marple a few times, because I was in love with the prettiest girl in town! Wondering who she was? Her name was (and maybe still is) Lesley 'Weird Wee Lee' Stevenson, I can't remember the address (what a shame, after only 20 years!), but I do remember she had 2 brothers (and a little dog) If you know her, please let me know. If you see here, just tell her I said "hello Weird Wee Lee". Keep this site on the net, Best wishes from the Netherlands |

A good and
informative site. Having lived in Marple for a number of years your site
has taught me things about the place I never knew. When next you see David
Brindley tell him his photographs are superb, and tell him Glenys said so
as I know him well, he did some copies of old Marple for me and I have
them in a frame.
Thanks again for an interesting web
page. |

It's been a while since I visited with ya'll. (Tried to teach some friends how to say "ya'll" one night at Mario's restaurant). Just wanted to say Hi, and read all the latest on good old Marple. I sure miss it, would love to come back for a visit soon but don't have anywhere affordable to stay. Does anyone have any suggestions how to cut the lodging cost of a holiday in Marple. I'd love to hear from ya'll if you want to get in touch with me at my email address. |

Now
residing in Canada but when suggesting to friends to go and visit Marple
on their future planned trip to the U.K. I could not find any accommodation
listings for Marple. There must be some I know but it has been some time
since I left. Suggest maybe you could add them to your excellent site.
Keep up the good work...Cheers! |

I came across
your site while doing a search for Marple Hall as part of a family tree
project. Having been born and bred in Marple but now living out in the
wilds of Lincolnshire it was a real blast from the past seeing my old home
town...and brought quite a lump to my throat I can tell you. Sadly I don't
get back to Cheshire too often. I was also interested in the link for
Marple Band as my G-Grandfather used to play for them.
Wonderful site. |

Excellent
homepage.
For an unofficial site this has to be one of the best. I have lived in Marple for 18 months, having lived around the Macclesfield & Bollington areas all my life. I will be proud to present a link to this page to all my friends. Keep up the good work. |

I like the
website, but was more than disappointed to find no reference whatsoever to
Marple's Championship Section Brass Band.
The Band is currently ranked at No.6 in the country and regularly competes against (& sometimes beats!) the better known names in Brass Banding such at Black Dyke and Brighouse & Rastrick. The Band has a nationwide profile taking the name of Marple all over the country and has even performed in France. Surely such worthy ambassadors for Marple are worth a mention on your website. All members of the Band are proud to represent Marple. Our own site is currently under construction (www.themarpleband.co.uk), if you would like any further information (maybe a photo to include on your site) please email me Helen Fox, Principal Cornet, The Marple Band. |

Well done
Mark. I lived in Marple/Marple Bridge for about twelve years prior to moving to the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East last year. I really miss the old place and it's great to know that I can keep up with what's going on via this site. Can't wait to get back at some point and have a decent pint in the Spring Gardens. |

I have some
hand written genealogy from my Grandfather...Clifton Marple that I would
be agreeable to copying and forwarding by post if anybody would be
interested. My Father Norman Clifton Marple served in the US Army Air
Corps during the second world war in Laversham (I hope I have the name
correct) And often told me about flying over Marple on his way to a
mission over Germany or North Africa. If anyone is interested please
contact me at RangerF724@aol.com (I have tried to contact Raymond a number of times but the e-mail address provided seems to contain an error.-MW) |

Nice site.
It is especially nice to view photo's of the old home town. Although my
parents still reside there (in Hawk Green, just below the ridge), I have
been resident here in Utah for the past 8 years, and resident in Saudi
Arabia for the 13 years preceding that - except for short holidays and for
a 6-month honeymoon after marrying my (American) wife (in Stockport) in
1991 (following the Gulf War where we met).
Doubtful if anyone will recognize the name due to my extended absences, but if anyone does (or just wants to write) please feel free to do so. Keep up the site, and refresh the photographs regularly. -D |

Hello
Marple!
It's lovely to be able to see pictures of my old home town. Now that I have moved to the inhospitable South of England, I am not able to get back as often as I would like. It is also really good to know what's going on in Marple - perhaps I won't miss some of the events now! Keep up the good work |

We really enjoyed the exhibition at Marple library today, it has also been interesting to find out that their is a Marple website. We did not know about this website until today, maybe you could talk to the local press about it as I'm sure there will be a lot of interest, particularly for local people and those that have left the area but still like to keep in touch. Well done what a great website! |

Great
website..........Well done!
Attended Marple Hall G.S. during the sixties and lived in Marple Bridge during the eighties before becoming an expatriate here in Nevada. I agree with a previous guest, a "getting in touch" section would be a great addition. Particularly interested in the David Brindley section. What a superb professional he is!. His genius appears unbounded. P.S. (should you see Dave soon please tell him I'm still awaiting the cheque in the mail) Robin Haworth |

I left
Marple at the age of 17 in 1981 having lived there all my life, my family
still live near the old Marple Hall and I visit throughout the year.
Although I went to Marple Hall School and many of the acquaintances I made
may still live in Marple I never see any of them on my visits (or maybe
they see me first!). So how about a contacts page (nothing seedy! My wife
says no old girlfriends need apply, if indeed there were any!) and
certainly anyone who remembers the good old days please feel free to
contact me.
A very good site this will not be my last visit. Regards |

I'm living
in London now and working as a researcher for a think-tank. I lived in
Marple for 14 years and my parents continue to live there. I've been
researching the internet to establish how many community sites there are,
how they work (do they work?), and what criteria determine their success.
I must say that all day I've been looking through several mediocre
attempts at representing the cultural life of a village on the net and in
my hour of boredom, typed in the distant, though ever-present name of
Marple into an online search-engine. After sifting through a countless
number of Marples in the US, I was delighted to come across this site and
am extremely impressed at the amount of work and research you've invested
in this project. It really is comprehensive. I noticed that your latest
addition to the site was made over a fortnight ago and hope that you will
be able to return to this project soon. If ever you feel down at low
audience figures, remember that on-line communities have an enormous
potential for translating involvement in cyber-space into involvement in a
real geographical cultural space and that the internet remains a medium
highly unfulfilled. I'm sure however that with projects like yours, the
benefits of the internet in generating greater community participation in
the local cultural lives of towns like Marple will soon be
fulfilled.
I wish you success! |

I
moved to Marple nearly three years ago, after living in various places
around the UK (following work!), and since arriving here I've found it has
a real community spirit which reminds me very much of the small town I
grew up in in Scotland.
I really like the way this site has developed over the last few months and hope to see it expand even more. Being interested in local history, especially people's everyday memories of things like the war, rationing, the "decline" of community etc, I'd like to see you include a section on the more recent history of the town, perhaps focusing on some of the local "characters" - every small town has a few! Best wishes |

I
wish you all the best for Marple on the net. I'd love to see bigger photos
and more of them. I'd also like to advertise our National Women's Register
Group which meets in Marple to discuss non-domestic matters on a regular
basis. If any women reading this would be interested in joining us, please
contact me by e-mail 100576.520@compuserve.com.
I wish you all the best with this great site and hope it can help to foster a real community spirit in our beloved town. |

First visit to the site after seeing the notice in Marple Library. We are both impressed by what you have done. I (Graham) have just completed a three year contract promoting the industrial heritage of Greater Manchester to tourists. I tried to get Marple in as many publications as possible. One of my last tasks was to have a set of photographs professionally produced which dealt with industrial heritage sites. The collection of shots included a lot of Marple (slight bias on my part) and I am sure the present owners (Stockport Tourism Dept) would be delighted to let you use them. I will pass on details of your site to them and you can e-mail me if I can be of help. |

Your site
is terrific! I have lived in Marple Twp, Delaware County, Pennsylvania,
USA for nearly my entire life and am fascinated to find our
"sister" town on-line!
The pictures are beautiful- makes me want to visit your town someday. I will be sure to pass the info on to the rest of my family so they can check out the "other" Marple too! Thanks for posting in the States o) Nancy |

Very
impressive site, beautifully laid out, in a nice relaxed style. I like the
map drill down and the Stockport weather from Yahoo. Love the old pictures
too. Excellently crafted. Pauline and has lived in Marple all her life and
recognises the pictures. By coincidence I met Jack Turnbull yesterday,
Don't know if you have met him, he lives in Marple and has written a few
books about the "old" Marple. I think one of them was dedicated
to public houses. Might be worth getting your heads together.
Is there an "official" Marple site? The main component of our website is the Stockport diving club at the above address. keep up the good work. |
