This is the first Marple Website guide to local shops and businesses and concentrates on Market Street, in the centre of Marple. This section of the Website will expand to cover other areas of Marple if sufficient interest is shown by the local community.

Market Street, which has long been the centre of Marple, underwent its transformation to pedestrian access during the 1970's. Since this time it has managed to survive the ever increasing competition from Stockport and Manchester shopping centres but this battle is not won, as can be seen by the empty properties shown on the map below. Market Street needs to win the support of local people if it is to continue into this new century.
