According to the report on the main website (and assuming this isn't an elaborate April Fool) the roadblocks should go up this morning!

Ok folks, sorry, have to confess that it was an April Fool.
Harry - apologies for temporarily changing the text of your message white but it would have given the game away too easily.
The final paragraph was intented to give you a clue - At present the council cannot give a realistic forecast as to how long the road will need to be closed but 'insiders' have said that the disruption that it will cause is likely have a substantial impact on the people of Marple, even to the extent of dramatic reductions in house prices. Our informant also advised that because of the difficulties this would cause to commuters and the likely impact on property values and local business, the council will be meeting in an emergency session early next week to discuss a substantial reduction in Council Tax for anyone who is effected by the closure. - even if the rest were true I'm sure we wouldn't get a Council Tax refund!
Having said all that, what are those blue tubes for? The hoax wasn't so elaborate that I put them there Mike, and I suspect that their purpose is to monitor the bank's subsidence, which although not as dramatic as I made out does still seem to be a problem. Perhaps there's a element of prophesy in this tall tale?

Yes, I confess it was. Not as elaborate as Mark's, but worth a go...

Well, at first I thought, its got to be a joke, then I went on the main page and there was pictures of the little blue things, so I thought it must be true.
Then I went on to have a deep discussion with my husband about the topic, and he said its probably true because he heard a rumour about two months ago.
Then we went on to have a conversation about how the mortgage may be bigger than what we could sell the house for, because its bound to be true, that Marple could become that little place that you hear about in films, where people live another life, because its the town of the unknown
We then went onto have a discussion about how my husband is going to have to leave home much earlier, and isnt going to get back untill really late because he will have to go the long way round.
Grrrrrr Grrrrrr Grrrrrrr Grrrrrrrr
Then as I mentioned previously, I was going into Stockport, so out we come of our road, and the roads were not heavy with traffic, I could not understand it.
so we then went onto have a discussion about has Mark got his days right, because the roads are not closed.
THEN we went onto have a conversation, that heaven help the drivers on Monday through rush hour, and we were going to Stockport, and we were bound to have to turn around if we get stuck at the bottom of Dan Bank.
Grrrrr Grrrrr Grrrrrrr

Tremendous, it's even strengthened your marriage! So all my efforts were worthwhile. Peter's too of course - he dashed out and took the photos on Friday when I had the idea while I was at work - and when I sent him the text I was going to put with them he fell for it too (although technically it wasn't April Fools' Day yet).
I guess I'll have to try much harder to catch you next year though

Were you also responsible for the notice about McBrabyn's Spring on track down to the park? If so, well done. I shall have to have a few drams and see if I can see the kilted ghost, too!!

No, not guilty there! For those who didn't see this, I understand it went something like this (thanks to Tony Jones who emailed these details):
I walked down to Brabyns on Saturday and near the junction of the roads in the woods there is a small underground stream which I think is a drain from the railway.
There was a sign fixed to the railing explaining that;
On 1st April 1651 there was a battle at the top of Brabyns brow between the English lead by John Bradshaw and the Scots lead by Mad Dougy Mac Brabyn.
The English were beaten and retired to the Jolly Sailor whilst the Victorious Scots went to a hostelry (?) on Town Street which was renamed some years later in honour of their victory.
Legend has it that Mad Dougy MacBrabyn consumed large amounts of ale and wandered off into the woods to sleep it off and was never seen again.
During the reconstruction of the road some ancient artifacts were found and archeaologists at Strathyarn university have found that these came from a whiskly still and that the site had been used for about 20 years to mash barley from behind the George Inn.
It is believed that on some nights the fire from the still can be seen and the smell of whisky hangs in the air.
Or something like that

I gather from an official source this is not so far from the truth. The Council has bid £3.5m for Government funding to stabilise the banking. If they get it this will mean the road will be closed for a considerable period in the not too distant future.

Now that is interesting.
If they get the funding then Dan Bank 'will be closed for a considerable period'.
So obviously the work needs doing.
Therefore, if they don't get the funding, I guess that Dan Bank could be closed for a considerable period.
Interesting times ahead.

I think interesting is not quite the word I would have used.
I did hear too that the road would close for some time - as it is currently busy collapsing into the vally..... work does need to be done - but given the state of the road last time an attempt was made, it will cause chaos in and around marple.
But then we're used to that... aint we chaps......
Osdog

Check out the Stockport Times this week, page 12.
"£3.5M to stabilise the bank."
"Close to critical condition under certain seasonal climatic conditions"
"..the effects of climatic degradation and increased traffic has resulted in a substantial risk of the road slipping."
"The road is safe and will not be closed."
Nobody will believe that will they
