Just been to the carnival committee meeting and there are a few things that are urgently required so I thought i would ask if there is anyone on this forum that can offer or knows someone who can .
1 The loan of a gazebo tent (Ex large size) for use as a trade stand at Marple Carnival
2 Can anyone offer the use of an open top car for the carnival princess ( Great opportunity for you to advertise your business to the huge crowds that attend
3 Can anyone offer a prize for the raffle for example if you are in the restaurant business could you offer a meal for two, or a hair dresser could you give a free cut blow, or anything that could boast the sale of tickets. Once again a good opportunity to advertise your business
The carnival is on Sat 19th June 2010 its the 48th year !!!
Hope there is someone out there that can help ???

I think the Marple Business Forum have a Gazebo - try asking either Dave Bluff @ Sew-In (46 Market Street) or Kay Gould-Martin @ Kay Dee Hair (56 Market Street)

Thank you Mark its fantastic that you are supporting our local Carnival in its 48th year. The Carnival has provided so much pleasure to our local community over the years and with local businesses like yours offering support it stands a fighting chance of continuing for another 48 years.

Dear Miss Marple, I first appear in Marple Carnival way back in 1967 as Marple Bands first mascot ,leading the parade at the tender age of 5.
I have since progressed to Principle Trombone with the Band, and hopefully with your help and support to this great event the Carnival will continue for many more years to come.

Raffle tickets are now on sale and there are some super prizes up for grabs. The tickets are on sale now in some local shops and will be on sale on Carnival Day throughout the day, with the draw taking place at 5pm in the Memorial Park. The tickets are 50p each so good value for money! So please support your local carnival by purchasing raffle tickets and carnival programmes. As always there will be a street collection so don't forget to bring all your loose change (cheques and paper money are also welcome) Here's hoping for a fantastic turn out and even better weather ;D

This might be a bit late, but only just seen the thread.
I can offer a raffle prize - a photo portrait stitting from Oaktree Photography if that helps... just a thought.
I'm based in Marple Bridge.

Hi thank you for the offer of a raffle prize which is fantastic!!! Could you explain what the raffle prize you are offering consists of so we can describe it accurately in the list of prizes. I have also taken the opportunity via your link on the web site to look at your pictures which really are spectacular especially the ones of Marple, where you really do capture it in all its glory. Once again thank you on behalf of all the members of the carnival committee. Hope to see you on the day !!!!
-
Thank you for that... much appreciated.
I've been in touch with the relevant people. Chris Armitt phoned me earlier today. It's all underway.
I'll be at the carnival on Saturday - got a stall with PD print, and I'll be wandering around with a big camera. Stop me and buy one.... LOL
Hope to have some prints of Marple to sell on the day.

Ray Noble was first past the line again this year with his photos in my in-box before I got home and they are now on-line in the new 2010 Carnival Album. http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=91
It was good to see the sun shine on Bill Ardern's big day and nice that the only thing wet about it was the "Under the Sea" theme. Well done again Carnival Committee members old and new.
I must say a special big thank you to Neil Drogie at Icing on the Cake for the superb cake he made for Friends of Marple Memorial Park - a perfect replica of the Carnival programme, and a work af art!
-
the carnival was good it was nice to see the school Morris dancers maybe it would be an idea if the schools had a inter class competition and then an inter school one on the day well done to all the organizers
-
Some of my own photos added to the Carnival Album now http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-91
They're coming in thick and fast now and more will be added as soon as I can.

Yes it was good to see the school Morris dancers. I know the carnival comittee have struggled again to get Morris dancers to come.It would be good if in the future if the local schools could all put some dancers in. Its good entertainment and makes the procession longer. Many people enjoyed watching them entertain later in the afternoon in the arena. Well Done to them.
-
We thoroughly enjoyed the procession - it was excellent, and so nice to see some lorries again! The bands were great too. Well done everybody, and a big thanks to the weathermen for organising such good weather! See you next year.
:D

Photos from Bill Beard and Diane Seddon have now been added to the Carnival 2010 album on the Virtual Tour - thank you both!

I'm adding them in the order that they've arrived and there's more to come!
-
And now Arthur Procter's contributions have been added - thank you Arthur - some great shots but you should have warned me to suck the belly in!

There are some cracking images on there. A great day captured....
-
There are indeed, and there are now six more - an early morning study of Bill Ardern as he gets everyone organised to put on such a great show. Unfortunately no amount of Photoshopping will bring back the red colour to that 20 year old sweatshirt. Well done Bill, and well done Gavin Eyquem who took these amusing photos.

That's it for now, unless more submissions arrive later.

They are some very good photos on there, i like photo 48 the most though or is that just because its my brother. The weather was the best we had for a few years and well done to all that organise the carnival

Don't forget that you can vote (rate) your favorite photos between 0 and 5 stars and you can also send pictures to friends and family as e-postcards by clicking on the little envelope icon: (http://www.visitmarple.co.uk/photos/images/ecard.gif) next to the backward and forward buttons.

Not having been to the carnival for many years, I was pleasently suprised what a fantastic effort everyone put in. It was great to see hundreds of people in the procession enjoying themselves and raising a few quid for their causes.
My personal favourate wasthe pipers.
Well done to all involved.
;D

I would just like to express my thanks to the Carnival Committee 2010 for all there hard work in hosting such a wonderful event.
My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her day as Carnival Queen and will remember the day for the rest of her life, as will I.
To think that this time last year the Carnival was at risk of ending due to lack of volunteers.
Well done and again many thanks to all involved.

Have merged your message with others about the Carnival minx. I assume that you've seen the pictures of Victoria and others in the Virtual Tour?:

Love the Carnival but isn't it time we got rid of Carnival queen idea? History is a passion of mine and this is where beauty pageants belong.

Take it you have just moved to the area ??? ;)

I think you'll find that nowadays it's a little girl thing but even in the days that the carnival queen was an older teen it wasn't really a glamour-type contest. There were no bathing suits involved and it was more about personality and deportment.
-
It's about the innocence of childhood and community spirit and inolvement!...Misery
-
A beauty pageant in Marple, what a horrible idea :( .. beauty is skin deep, the idea made me think of those pageants they have for children in America .. they plaster their children in make up, do all sorts of wrong things with their hair , its totally gross !

Does anyone know anyone or knows of any organisation who can offer some entertainment in this years Carnival Parade. Do you know a celebrity (must be hundreds in Marple) who could offer support. It can be a good source for advertising your business, sports group or whatever. If you have any ideas, post or send me a personal email
-
This year's search for Carnival Royalty has been extended to the end of February. If you know any young girls who'd enjoy dressing up and being treated like a queen or princess for a day then here are the contact details: www.marple-uk.com/carnival

?? Are you saying she wasn't very pretty? I don't think that's very nice.

The carnival is on Sat 19th June 2010 its the 48th year !!!
Isn't it more than 48 years (well, 49 now)? Admittedly there was a hiatus between the current run of carnivals and the earlier ones but the history goes back beyond 1962.

Bridget Forsyth - actress and former (fictional) girl friend to one of the "Likely Lads" used to live in Marple and may still do so (I haven' seen her in Mulligans lately)
There was a thread about this a few years back - 2004/2005 perhaps

As it says in the post you quote, it was 48 in 2010, 49 this year and it's the 50th anniversary next year of the revived carnival that started (or restarted) in 1962. There were carnivals before that but no clear records of which years. The earliest photo I've seen with a date on is 1905:
