Another takeaway, there is one soon to open next to the Indian restaurant on Stockport Road. We have far to many cafes/eating places already, what we need is some shops that sell decent but cheap clothes/shoes etc.

But what people use therefore want are take aways. They would not all be in business if local people were not using them. So its a faliciey to say what people want are cheap cloths shops when they care clearly demonstrating that what they want is take aways.

If you think that's true, Id test the water with a bit of research and perhaps get a plan together and open one.

With Yvonne gillom, Helen winterton, Beckie Sues, the pop up shop, Browse & M&co I think for a town the size of Marple, it's very well served and id be surprised you can make a good business.

There is a lot of empty shops, landlords have too high an expectation on rent and the council / govt are raping retail business through rates. Until every retail outlet is full, it's not the time to be choosy about the type of tennant that can make a success of a retail outlet.

Maybe this should be, without wanting this post to be moved to the trivia topic, time a certain establishment should be making some, as I used to know them, home economic courses available. Most of the time people get bored of cooking "ready meals" because they don't know what else to do. So now for simplicity and ease we buy a pizza or kabab... I vote Jaime Oliver to run for council!! ;D

I'm not sure what youare age group is but my point is Marple is very well served. For the cool chicks 20-35's and the stylish 30-50's Beckie Sues is better than anything the high street and Stockport Town Centre can offer, it's only beaten by Eternal Envy over in Heaton Moor and perhaps Mosiste in Bramhall and those two boutiques are two of the best boutiques in the country according to the fashion bible, Drapers. For the classy 40-60's you have Browse & Helen Winterstone as well as the place near the Co-op. For the cheap end there is M&Co, Pink Parrot, the pop-up shop.

As I say, if anyone tinks there there is room in hte market for something different, follow your insticts.

In fairness, the anonymity and discreet packaging means that online shopping avoids the stigma that is associated with visiting those specialist shops.

Clothing is one area that doesn't lend itself to online shopping. Being ableto try a garment and get a fit is essential and being individuals, having a syle that's suits the individual is not easily replicated by buying online.

Grenaby is reopening.

Think they will be trading similar to previous operation.

Rumour has it that it will have a changing room, so people can try on clothing purchased via mail order after collecting it from the sorting office, before it becomes an Aldi.

Well, if we are talking about shops in Marple - The knitting wool shop on Market street sells dressmaking (and presumably shirt making) patterns so what about a good fabric shop in Marple? Make it yourself and you get fashionable (if that's what you want), well-made and exclusive garments which cost considerably less than the retailers.

Now Dominos is opening but what about the other Pizza shops in Marple! How long will it be before it gets blamed for another shop closing down. But no sorry it will be Asdas fault i guess.

I suspect it will be a franchise.

I'm not so sure it's quite the same comparison as Asda, Dominoes will complete with Dolce Vito in the main, the other take aways have a different market and it's easier for them to simply go cheaper. I did the accounts for a Dominoes franchise in Leeds  and they have to do very well to cover costs, if it is a franchise, I hope they have done their homework.

Assuming they are a franchise, I wish the owner well & hope the Italian restaurant doesn't lose any customers as a result

I doubt if Dominos will affect the Dolce Vita, its primarily a restaurant, and a very good one at that. I think the pizza takeaways, Harlequin and Marple Pizza (if thats what its called, the one tucked away behind the 2nd hand junk shop) will be the ones to suffer.
Title: Re: Dominos
Post by: Bluezorro on November 08, 2012, 10:51:34 PM
I think dominoes will be for a slightly different market than the one harlequin and the other one cover.

Admitted they may lose slight trade temporarily but they should then take that on board and up their own game in terms of customer service, presentation of retail unit to compensate for it.

They sponsor major tv programmes and they drop menus and deliver to marple already from hazel grove.

Pizza hut in hazel grove also delivers to marple.

Bargain booze sales will go up!

I expect these hours to last; they already know the local depend from their Hazel Grove outlet.    It is very likely that the franchise for both is owned by the some person, Dominos likes their franchises to have multiply outlets in an area.

I don’t expect many issues with them being open so long, as they will not be getting many customers visiting at these hours – a big selling point of theirs is the free delivery.   They have a computer system that tracks how quickly each store deliveries an order and say in their account that it is the most important factor in a store growing sales.

The fact that one of their best sales methods is people ordering on Sky boxes says a lot about their target market!

The few times I have used them, they have delivered good food quickly, and the food is consistent but nothing special.  I have been a stock holder in them for many years; they just keep putting up the dividends a little each year:-)

(I would not choose to use them in Marple, as I know good local takeaways, but when I am staying somewhere I don’t know they are a safe opton.)

I find it hard to understand takeaways that only open short hours (e.g. fish and chip shops), if we are home at a reasonable time we will cook for ourselves.
