Here's a press release from Portland Wine at Cote Green:
Local wine merchants Portland Wine were finalists in the category for multiple specialist chain at this year’s Drink Retailing Awards.
Stefan Cartwright, who manages their Marple Bridge branch and represented the family-owned business at the event, commented:
"It was nice to be recognised as worthy contenders in a tough category. We lost out to Majestic who have 192 outlets, so we have done really well for a family owned chain with just 7 shops. Product availability is a strong point for us, as it should be with all independents. We stock everything from local ales to first growth claret with the best champagne prices in Cheshire".
Portland Wine have outlets in Alderley Edge, Buxton, Hale, Macclesfield, Marple Bridge, Sale and Tarporley. With passionate and committed staff, they are a proud example of how smaller, family owned companies can still thrive in difficult times for the high street.

I didn't know there was a wine merchant in the Bridge, apart from a few bottles at Dutson's. Where is it?
-
Agree with you on that Dave never seen or hear of them. Anyone know if they deliver???
-
http://www.portlandwine.co.uk/ - Free delivery for orders over £100
-
Ah, BUT from Marple Wine Club you will get free delivery in the Marple Area on ALL ORDERS, plus you should support them because they support this web site and the Virtual Tour with their advertising banner and have done for many years.
So the very best local deals are from Marple Wine Club ;D www.marplewineclub.com or www.marple-uk.com/wineclub

It's on Compstall road near ernocroft road . Used to be cote green wines .

Oh I see, it's that place! That's not Marple Bridge,that's Compstall! ;)

Marple Bridge goes as far as the George pub I'm reliably informed by 'Swampy'.
Let's have a debate about boundaries.

Swampy only knows we're the pubs are ;)

Because its on the way to Compstall. Much like Rochdale Road is in Manchester and not Rochdale.... Tells you which way to go to get somewhere.

Where does Marple actually start at Dan Bank? I read somewhere that the area where Seventeen Windows is, is actually a 'No-man's area' and it is neither in Marple or Offerton!

Far be it from me to get the topic back on track (ahem!), but I go to Portland Wines quite a bit for locally-brewed bottle beers - Bollington, Tatton and Red Willow (I like to support, and enjoy the beers from, local breweries) - as well as the more mainstream national and international ones. They've got quite a selection, certainly enough to keep me happily entertained. It's also one of the few places in the locality where I've been able to find Blue Moon - yay! On the flipside, if they stocked Samuel Smith's I would be in Seventh Heaven: 'Pure', in particular, is a very quaffable drink.
There are a few beers which, alas, I have not had the courage to sample. Not because of their fearsomely-high ABV; rather, because they are on a shelf at such a precarious downward angle that I daren't select any bottles from it in case the whole lot comes crashing down. And actually, thinking about it, the whole shop could really do with a bit of a tidy-up.
I'm not a wine drinker, otherwise I would - as recommended earlier - be putting a fair amount of business in the direction of the Marple Wine Club. Maybe they could offer non-wine products for beer-heads like me?
