Skate Park Event Sponsors needed for Carnival Day
As part of Marple Carnival Friends of Marple Memorial Park are holding an event at the Skate Park on Carnival Day, Saturday 15 June, with skateboard and BMX demonstrations, coaching and mini-competitions for skate park users.
The event is linked to the Marple Memorial Park Skate Park Development Project, which hopes to raise enough money to refurbish and extend the existing skate park facility in Marple Memorial Park.
Friends of the Park are being supported in this joint community effort by local skaters and bikers, Marple Hall School, Marple Library, SMBC, Marple Civic Society, Marple Vision Partnership, Marple Area Committee, Marple Carnival Committee, Marple and District Rotary Club, Marple Business Forum and Youth Workers from All Saints' Church, who will help to liaise with the young skate park users.
The Carnival event is being put on for us by professional extreme sports company Team Extreme, and will feature four ten-minute demonstrations from a professional skateboarder and professional BMX rider during the day. Team Extreme are also providing a Compare / MC and in between the demonstrations the pros will coach local skate park users and hold some mini-competitions for skateboarders, BMX Riders and one for scooter users too.
Seeking Local Business Sponsors
Friends of the Park are currently seeking sponsorship for trophies and prizes that can be awarded to the winners of the three mini-competitions. Local businesses are invited to sponsor each of these for the sum of £50 and we will obviously publicise your generosity during the event. Sponsors will be chosen on a first-come basis but if your business misses out on these opportunities then you are welcome to make a small (or large) contribution to the match funding we are currently raising towards the skate park and this will be publicised in every way we can too.
Friends of the Park are also seeking one or two major sponsors for the whole event, which is costing £1,700 and is currently being paid from Skate Park Project funds.

Seeking Local Business Sponsors of Marple Carnival Skate Park Event
Friends of the Park were delighted to receive sponsorship for the three trophies and prizes needed for each of the mini-competitions on the first day of launching their appeal. The successful businesses quickest off the mark were Stationery Supplies, David Myers Golf Academy / Marple Golf Club and the Springfield Hotel on Station Road, who each offered to contribute the £50 requested.
There are now further opportunities for sponsorship of this event by donating raffle prizes or paying for a sponsor's poster that will be featured on our sponsored displays throughout the Carnival Event. An A4 poster can be displayed for a donation of £25 and an A3 poster for a donation of £50. Businesses contributing raffle prizes will be featured on a list of contributors on the displays and we will also use Facebook, Twitter and the Marple Website to publicise your generosity. Posters, or the electronic artwork for them, need to be provided by the sponsor please.
Friends of the Park are also seeking one or two major sponsors for the whole event, which is costing £1,700 and is currently being paid from Skate Park Project funds and any other contributions toward our match funding target.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Stars N Stripes, the American Candy, Treats and Soda Shop on Market Street, who have filled up our enormous glass jar with sweets free of charge! The jar will be used for our "Guess the number of Sweets" competition at the Carnival next Saturday.

Woodstock Pizza are taking part in a Carnival Day Fun Day at The Marple Tavern on Cross Lane and they have kindly offered to donate 10% of their takings on the day to the Marple Skate Park Project. This is what they say about the event:

Latest news on support and sponsorship for the Skate Park Event is that Silhouette Cutter Steve Abbott will be joining us tomorrow and will be donating all proceeds from his participation to the Skate Park Fund.
Many local people will have come across Steve's Silhouettes before - it's amazing to watch and we are delighted that he will be giving his support.

I'm delighted to report today that Friends of Marple Memorial Park have received a match-funding donation of £250 towards the Skate Park Project via the Marple Branch of the NatWest Bank.
We would like to thank Andy Vickerstaff, manager of the local branch, for getting involved and supporting our Carnival Event on the day and for this fantastic contribution to our match-funding target.
