The signal box at Romiley Station is shortly to be demolished any one interested in photos . It won't be there much longer ...
-
Almost every signal box in the UK is scheduled for demolition during Network Rail's Control Period 5, 2014 to 2019, and the control of all signalling will be centred on a small number of Railway Operation Centres. Six are already in operation and another six, including Manchester, are currently being built. English Heritage have conducted a very comprehensive review, which is available on http://services.english-heritage.org.uk/ResearchReportsPdfs/028-2012WEB.pdf (http://services.english-heritage.org.uk/ResearchReportsPdfs/028-2012WEB.pdf) and some may be retained, although non operational, as heritage buildings. I haven't gone through all 64 pages in detail but I doubt if Romiley is on their list.

Would make a nice house, handy for commuters

I assume your comment is ironic? If not, imagine the noise and vibration every time a train passed! The line is (at least it was last time I looked) used for freight as well as passenger services so there could be heavy stuff going through during the night.

Not really, a little extension of the balcony, put in double glazing, gallery kitchen downstairs, I'd like to extend slightly towards the platform which will give a nice dining space. Handy for the train station, gym, pubs, take aways.
What's the asking price?

Such a sad shame that its being removed, I understand why and it is listing to one side! My granddad work at the station during the 2ND World War! Gives me a very British and warm feeling whenever I see one!!

There is actually a local campaign to save the signal box:

Not sure if that would work, OK for hte commuters but otherwise, why make the effort to go up?

Although the Planning Portal has not been updated yet I've seen a letter to an objector that says this application has been refused.
