Strolling along Stockport Road this morning, between the post office and the Texaco garage/ Co-op, I noticed this posted up in the window of a vacant shop, which most recently was a business called Fab Floors.
Application for a Premises Licence
Applicant: Northern Beer Traders Limited
Premises Address: 113 Stockport Road, Marple, Stockpot, SK6 6AF
Application date: 14.9.15
Activities applied for: Supply of alcohol for consumption on and off the premises 11:00-23:00 Monday to Sunday.
Performance of recorded music, indoors, 11:00-23:00 Monday to Sunday.
Closing date for representations: 12th October 2015.
Looks like a new micropub to me. These are a bit of a recent trend, and they are springing up all over the place. They tend to set up in former shops, and take advantage of the relatively low rents and overheads, compared with a full-size traditional pub. Could be just what that part of Marple needs.

Just what we need more idiots on the streets of Marple late at night .

Do you really think the "idiots on the streets of Marple" will get tanked up in this establishment? They will visit Bargain Booze or Asda, then the park more likely. I wish Marplebeer well, and will probably visit.

Nobody will use this kind of establishment in order to get drunk and smash up bus shelters. You clearly have no clue what kind of business it is yet still chose to disparage it. Talk about idiots.
-
Oh my... So just as I (last week) make a reluctant decision to stop collecting beer bottles, a beer bottle shop opens in Marple? (I know it's more than that - but it sells beer bottles being the point)
I uh... might retract my decision.
If my girlfriend wins that fight though - don't suppose anyone wants 646 different beer bottles? ;D

Only said it to upset you Howard .

You didn't. It just confirmed my opinion. I think you should chill out and go and catch a band at The Windsor ;)

I think this is most exciting news for beer lovers like me! Can't wait to try it out and with the take-over of the Spring Gardens by a proper local brewer too it's very promising news.
-
Ditto. Getting spoilt for choice. Much as I enjoy Robbies & some of their special brews it's nice to have a complete change at times.
-
Given the concerns re noise etc. moving to another area of Marple, something which in my experience of this type of venture is unlikely as they tend not to attract noisy types, perhaps we should arrange a website contributors evening drink to help support a business prepared to show some faith in our community.

Agree 100% :)

It's in the Tennessee Jack's thread. Fool Hardy Ales taken it on: http://www.marple-uk.com/smf/index.php?topic=6023.0

The new Beer Traders on Stockport Road is opening on Friday 4 December from 4pm.

Thoroughly enjoyed several pints of "Pint" last night at the new Beer Traders, so good I didn't sample any other brews. It was pretty busy on its first night and everyone seemed to have a good time. The downsides for me was that it was rather too warm and very very noisy. It was only people talking but it was very loud. The acoustics are such that it was bouncing off ceiling, walls and floor so that you had to shout at the person next to you, so a bit of a vicious circle with everyone getting louder. Despite that enjoyed it very much.
Have heard a rumour that another similar type of place is to open on Market Street. Anyone know any more about this?
-
Finally managed to visit Beertraders last week and was impressed. Nice selection of beers, mostly locally brewed and reasonably priced. The place was busy and as previously mentioned quite hot and noisy, but very enjoyable nonetheless. I hope they continue to do well.
-
There's another one opening on Market Street soon too, next to Martins. Can't wait!

In seriousness, these 'pubs' do not create a problem where they spring up and in a way, they go back to the original spirit of the pub. As the industry has all but died, this is itself being re-born.
-
Sounds (pun not intended) like i need to pop down!
-
Have heard that the new micro pub "Samuel Oldknow" on Market Street is due to open next Thursday at 1pm just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend!
-
Lets hope they don't charge Manchester City Centre prices!!!!
-
Do Beer Traders do off-trade sales? If Bargain Booze is shut then that leaves a very poor selection of beers you can buy to take home in Marple. Asda's real ale selection is woeful and there are no craft beers whatsoever. This leaves the only option as Morrisons in Bredbury unless someone can tell me otherwise.

Yes they do. So will Samuel Oldknow when they open on Thursday.

Aldi in Romiley (as other branches) do a good selection of well known local and national bottled real ales and craft beers, considerably cheaper than the same brands at the likes of Morrisons, Asda & Tesco.

Thanks. In my experience they do a very good range of lagers but the real ales aren't that great and craft beers non existent. I'll look again though.

The Bottle Stop in Bramhall is well worth the short drive :)
They sell a very extensive range of real ales & craft beers, plus wine, munchies, accessories etc. I can never spend just a few minutes in there!

Goyt Wines in Whaley Bridge have a good selection. Not local obviously, but worth dropping in if passing through.

I know what you mean about The Bottle Stop - it is terrific - but I'd hardly describe it as a 'short drive'. Much closer to home is Portland Wines on Compstall Road. It has a great selection of local ales: I normally go for those from Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell, and the other day I noticed some from Torrside Brewing in New Mills. Well worth a visit, particularly following Bargain Booze's unexpected demise.
-
Other sources are All things nice in the precinct ( though the number stocked can go up and down) and Dutsons in Marple Bridge.
-
The beer shop, I don't know what it's called, in Stockport Market also carries a large range

AFAIK neither Asda nor Morrison's sell 'real ale' at the moment - real ale meaning a bottle conditioned beer, such as Worthington White Shield, which has a sediment in the bottom of the bottle. However, a few perfectly acceptable 'unreal' beers can be found at both of these, such as Old Speckled Hen, Abbott and Bishop's Finger, and Asda sell these at £5 for four half-litre bottles, which is not a bad price.

Portland wines in Compstall used to have a good bottle beer range including BCA's.
