Title: Goyt Valley SOS Meeting to discuss A6 Extension Proposals [21 February 2017]
Post by: Mr Brock on February 09, 2017, 04:51:30 PM
Local green belt is also under threat from proposals to extend the A6-Airport Road (now being built) up to the M60 at Bredbury. This would grievously harm the Lower Goyt Valley west of Otterspool as well as encouraging more traffic to attempt to get through Dan Bank and A6 High Lane in the morning rush-hours. A meeting to discuss these issues has been called by Goyt Valley SOS at 7.15 on Tuesday, 21st February at the Senior Citizens Hall. All are welcome to come and join in.

Just to raise the profile of @Mr Brock's post in the GMSF thread I'm popping it into the Events Calendar too.

Marple Senior Citizen's Hall Tuesday 21 February starting at 7.15pm:

Yes, at last things are stirring with the proposed A6 - M60 link road. See
http://www.semmms.info/semmms/strategy/a6-to-m60-link/

and http://www.semmms.info/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/protected-route-corridor-for-the-A6-to-M60-scheme.pdf

It will be interesting to see how the proposals evolve, and especially whether a junction is planned where the new road crosses Marple Road near Offerton Sand and Gravel.  If there is a junction there it would seem highly likely that the new road could make our dreadful traffic congestion even worse. But if there is no junction (i.e. a flyover), it may ease congestion by removing through traffic from Torkington Road and Dooley Lane.

@Dave  that has been up for some months. The latest is here,  http://democracy.stockport.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=154&MID=8989#AI34112 both a link to Phase 1 report (a re working of the old data for the scheme) and the webcast from the council  scrutiny meeting. (nothing really said, just noting report)

Certainly reads like we may hopefully get some action soon.

A plan for the Bredbury to Manchester Airport link road appeared in the Messenger newspaper back in 1989.
The consultation for this road was started in 2003 and now they are only building half of it.
This will make traffic worse around Otterspool etc with traffic trying to get from Bredbury to the Hazel Grove.

Surely the completion of this road will get some of the traffic OFF the local roads.

But it could take a few years !

Depends on the road, the risk is it takes traffic off the A6 in Stockport, while putting traffic on Dan Bank etc from people in New Mills getting to the new rd.

Indeed. Which is why there is a good case for having a flyover rather than a junction on Marple Road Offerton.

Or to solve the bigger problem of providing a quality road into the middle of Maple and a separate quality link into New Mills.

This is no longer an impossible request if our green belt is built on, more roads would be needed and these roads cold be extended into Marple.

Pleased to see @William Wragg MP making a very considered case for the A6 to M60 link road in parliament today. Hopefully we can move this forward so that it is built as soon as possible after the current A6 to Airport link and the proposed Poynton bypass.
