Title: Tram train
Post by: Dave on March 12, 2020, 09:39:16 AM
Hidden away in the small print of yesterday’s budget, reportedly, was an announcement of funding for a tram-train pilot in Greater Manchester.  So maybe it could happen after all? 😊

When they announced this last year the plan appeared to be to run them over the line between Altrincham and Stockport via Hale.

As was the plan in 2015

So presumably that will be the pilot.  But hopefully it will lead to more.  (Although why we need to keep doing pilots on everything given other countries use this stuff without problems, is another question.)

Hopefully it will die a death after the pilot.

Well, the Sheffield-Rotherham pilot was announced as far back as 2012.

The latest I can find on the outcome of that is far from promising:

It doesn't suggest much will happen soon anyway.

I think it more likely a route could be built some other way.
