Title: Albert's garage on Church Lane
Post by: alan@marple on February 01, 2006, 05:32:23 PM
Since Albert Oldham lost his garage to the developers, the site has turned into a real eyesore and I believe is in a dangerous condition and I am particularly concerned about children who might go "exploring" into the building.
which is at the side of the canal opposite the " Ringers".

I have sent an email to SMBC asking them if they will please consider sending a representative from building control to ascertain the risk to public safety and for appropriate action to be taken as required

I have had a reply from SMBC, they have contacted the owners with a view to having the premises boarded up and to speed up demolition.

I hope they're careful. I went past there a couple of days ago, during daylight, and saw at least three large rats running in and out of the building.

Here's a selection of photos sent by Alan to make clear the present condition of Albert's Garage and the surrounding area.

There is a article on this in the stockport times, page 5.
scary thought that the owners have until 2009 to commence development. Lets hope they do something about it alot sooner than that!  ???

Nearly five years on, and nothing has happened, it seems to me that "someone" is waiting for the outcome of the canal yard discussions and final proposal.

I do wish the council would compulsary purchase the whole area site and make a decision to dedicate the entire area as a heritage site for the benefit of the whole community.

All this "pussyfooting" has gone on long enough.

Just my opinion!

Surely the owners have put forward some proposals of their own. I'd quite like to live there, I may offer to buy and build on it.
