Scroll Bridge Brabyns Park

We spoke to SMBC about this during our Iron Bridge meeting earlier this week. They didn't overwhelm us with detail but the gist of it is that the investigations into what is missing and available has gone pretty well - a significant amount of the original stone has been identified and set out in the park. (I'll add some photos for those of you who have not seen them later.)

The money for the rebuilt / restoration is in next year's budget, so the work to rebuild cannot start until the new financial year. The officers we spoke to could not advise how soon after this the work would start, but hopefully it will not be too long.

I see all the stones are now being laid out in the park.  They seem to have quite a pile, but I bet they're not all there.

Anyone know exactly what the plans are?

Explororatary work began this morning on the old Scroll Bridge in Brabyns Park, (not to be confused with the Iron Bridge). People may recall that contractors fitting the 'temporary' Bailey bridge over the supposedly unsafe Iron bridge accidentally demolished this 1804 listed structure in 1991.
Having found some European money the council are now trying to ascertain the condition of the footings before work on re-building the bridge takes place in the New Year. Part of the problem is that due to the length of time that has elapsed since the parts were stored, nobody can be sure if all the stones are still there. To answer this problem it is proposed to have a 'trial build' in a compound in the park.
Good Luck to the contractors with their historic jigsaw puzzle and I for one look forward to seeing the bridge back in all its glory.
For those who don't remember the bridge follow this link to read about it.
