Local voluntary and community groups are being invited to apply for funding from Stockport Council's Main Grant Scheme.

The Main Grant Scheme is available to groups whose activities benefit the Stockport area and meet the Council's priorities. The scheme awards grants from £3,000 and provides revenue funding for the staffing and running costs of projects or organisations.

Groups interested in finding out more about the scheme and whether they will qualify, should come along to one of the training and advice sessions. These sessions will tell groups about the grant process and how to fill in the application forms.

These events will be run jointly with Stockport Community and Voluntary Services and will be held in the Town Hall with a maximum of 25 places available at each session. Sessions will be held on the following days:

Thursday 30th October, from 9.30am to 11.30am

Wednesday 5th November, from 9.30am to 11.30am

Wednesday 19th November, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm
There will also be two 'drop in days' at Stockport CVS, based at Russell Morley House, 8-16 Lower Hillgate, Stockport, where groups can get one-to-one advice on grant application forms. These sessions will be held on the following days:

Thursday 11th December, from 9.00am to 5.30pm

Tuesday 16th December, from 9.00am to 5.30pm
Councillor Sue Derbyshire, Executive Member for Communities, said: "Councils working in partnership with voluntary organisations and community groups, often known as the third sector, is high on the government's agenda. In Stockport we recognise that the voluntary and community sector plays a vital role in the borough as a key local employer and service provider and I encourage them to find out more about the Main Grant Scheme and how it could benefit them."

To book a place on a training session, for general queries or to receive a grant application form by post, email Julie Farley at julie.farley@stockport.gov.uk or phone 07800 618 871.

The deadline for returning completed Grant Application forms is Wednesday 7th January 2009.
