LUCKY FRIDAY the 13th for HAWK GREEN BAND
Often referred to as “The greatest free show on Earth,” the Tameside and Saddleworth Brass Band Whitsun extravaganza attracts thousands of people to enjoy brass band music of the highest calibre. This annual event took place, on Friday 13th. June 2014. Brass bands from across the country and some from abroad, compete for prizes in different venues and villages in the area.
This was not to be an unlucky day for local Stockport Brass Band, Hawk Green (Marple).
Large crowds on a sultry, early summer’s evening saw Hawk Green gain four 1st places in their section.
1st. at Hurst Village, near Ashton Under Lyme, Hawk Green beat bands from higher sections and which enjoy sponsorship from large companies, e.g. Jaguar Land-Rover and Building Society Bands.
Other first places awarded for Hawk Green included, Broadoak, Heyrod and Stalybridge.
"Hard work and commitment from players and musical director, Neil Hewson, contributed to the band’s success on Friday 13th. We were so pleased that this was our lucky day.” said chairman of the band, Geoff Gaskell.
