Horseboat Maria will be coming to Marple for the Locks Festival.

This is their itinerary:

Friday 3rd July: Arrive over Aqueduct at 3pm. Up the locks between 3pm to 6-7pm.

Sunday 5th July: Leave Top Lock at 10am. Down 4 locks to Festival site.
Harnessing demo at 2pm Sunday. Set off down locks approx. 3pm. Over aqueduct.

We now have full details of the Marple 150 / Marple Locks Festival with the Official Programme:

Photographic Exhibition at Marple Station: All summer in the waiting room: photographic exhibition showing the evolution of Marple's railway station.

Wednesday 1 July 7.00am - 12.00pm at Marple Station: 150th birthday celebrations at the station including the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Mayor of Stockport and Managing Director of Northern Rail at 10.30am.

Wednesday 1 July until Saturday 4 July at Marple Library: Exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia from the old Marple Station. Plus a scale model of the old station.

Thursday 2 July 7.30pm at Marple Senior Citizens' Hall: Illustrated talk and book launch by Warwick Burton on the history of the railways of Marple and District.

Saturday 4 July 10.00am at Marple Station: Marple Ramblers 6 mile walk from Marple Station to New Mills Central (which is also 150 years old) and New Mills One World festival; return by train.

Saturday 4 July Music Train: Music train from Manchester Piccadilly to Marple, play at the Norfolk Arms, then continue to New Mills.

Marple Locks Festival
Sunday 5 July 10.00am to 4.00pm in Marple Memorial Park and along the Lock Flight:
Stalls representing local societies and activities.
Historic Boats
BBQ
Boat trips from Top Lock on new Horizons
Model Boats at Lock 12
Guided walks to include locks and tramway
Presentation to winners of the poetry competition

Musical entertainment includes:
11.00am Ian Bruce
12.00pm Lazio Baby (Music in Hospitals)
2.00pm The Hayes Sisters

Sunday 11 July 6.00am "The Retro Cumbrian Coaster"
Special train to Carlisle organised by Retro railtours with the Friends of Marple Station.

Get the date in your diary for the 2015 Marple Locks Festival - Sunday July 5th in Marple Memorial Park.

The Festival this year is a special one - joining with the celebrations of the Marple Railway Station to mark 150 years since 1865 when Marple first had a station.
