I've now seen emails and listened to an angry local councillor this evening confirming that there are no further cuts planned at present for Etherow Park. There certainly have been cuts at Etherow, as there have with all parks in the last 3 years but there are no more planned for Etherow Park in the coming Financial Year.

This is not the case at Marple Memorial Park, where it is proposed that we will loose our full time park attendant, and several other parks across the borough.

It's a shame that this petition has distracted from the issue of real cuts proposed to park budgets in Stockport.

For full details see here: www.marple-uk.com/parks or this thread: http://www.marple-uk.com/smf/index.php?topic=6531.0

Please complete the consultation to say we want to keep our parkie! https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=144345117194

Detail is thin on the ground. See here http://compstall.weebly.com/news for some information. Mike Mawby and Richard Britton from compstall community council are probably the best people to talk to.

I've signed this petition of course, Etherow Park is a fantastic community asset and park budgets have been cut enough over that last 3 years.

But I can't find any detail of what further cuts are proposed at Etherow. The petition by Compstall Community Council says that "Etherow is facing all its funding being cut by the local Council. if this is true then it is dreadful news but where is this info coming from and what exactly are the council's plans? Will they simply abandon the park and close its gates?

The council is currently consulting on proposed Public Realm cuts that will impact local parks, including the removal of full time staff from Memorial Park. This is detailed in a consultation document but there is nothing about Etherow Park in there. Is this because they are just going to do it without consulting? If so that would  be extremely worrying.

So what is the background and basis for this petition? Does anyone know what the exact council proposals are and why they do not appear to be in the public realm?
