The House House of Commons Communities and Local Government Committee's report on Public Parks has been published today.
It features our photo of Marple Memorial Park on page 25 but that's a very small aspect as, in my view, this is one of the most important reports that I have ever seen.
It has managed to put into words what we all know, that our local parks are hugely important, and are at great risk due the the funding cuts they have already suffered over the last few years and further cuts that are projected.
I'm proud that Friends of Marple Memorial Park are amongst the many hundreds of groups and thousands of people to contribute to this inquiry.
There's a lot to read but if you just manage to get through the introduction summary I hope you will see what I mean.

The Communities and Local Government Select Committee at the House of Commons are conducting an inquiry into parks. As part of this they carried out a survey that received more than 13,000 responses from members of the public. The results of this survey are now available on-line and it includes (amongst many other great park photos) a photo of Marple Memorial Park volunteers at work on our flowerbeds. The report makes interesting reading and Friends of the Park look forward to the report and recommendations from the inquiry in 2017. Here's the link to the report:

If you are interested in this you can also view the oral evidence sessions (which include one session attended by Stockport Council's Greenspace Manager Ian Walmsley) here:
