Marple Poppy Appeal Record Total!

The final counting is completed and the 2018 Marple Poppy Appeal has raised an amazing record total of £22,129.37

Very well done to organisers Kevin Murray, Mike Openshaw and Ron Townley plus everyone who helped in many different ways.

2018 Marple Poppy Appeal Update

Today during counting the Marple Poppy Appeal team has reached a very poignant figure of £19,800, which is very emotional as it relates so perfectly with the 198 men they have honoured this year.

Street Poppies erected throughout the Marple District to commemorate the men who fell

This weekend you will see almost 200 Street Poppies appearing on the lampposts of Marple, Marple Bridge, Compstall, Mellor and High Lane as the Marple Poppy Appeal commemorates 198 men from the district who lost their lives during WWI.

The Marple Website is proud to be one of the first sponsors of Marple's Street Poppies in 2018 with a donation of £50 to the Marple Poppy Appeal.

The Friends of Marple Memorial Park have erected 20 poppies commemorating men with links to the park - mainly the Carver family and men who worked at Hollins Mill before going to war. Other volunteers, including Marple Firefighters, have been out erecting poppies in the main streets of the area.

Marple Poppy Appeal 2018

2018 is an extra special year for the Poppy Appeal across the country as it is the Centenary of the End of WWI.

The Marple Team are working even harder to build on last year's record-breaking success and you can read more about this on the main site:

Marple Poppy Appeal 2018

Following on from the huge success of the new Marple Poppy Appeal Team in 2017, preparations are now underway for this special year, the centenary of the end of WWI.

198 Street Poppies
This year the Team will be putting up 198 street poppies across the Marple District in honour of the 198 local men who gave their lives in WWI. There will also be a fascinating "Who was I?" scheme that will encourage local people to learn more about the men who fell. More about these initiatives will be published toward the end of the month.

Order your wreath
In the meantime, if you would like a wreath for your group, organisation, club, business, or for personal use to commemorate this year's Remembrance, please email poppyappeal@marple-uk.com.

The pictures below show various types of wreath with suggested donation.

The type C wreath can have a central logo which could be your own logo or a military one if required.

Volunteers needed for collections
Additionally, can you spare an hour or two of your time during the first week in November to help out on the Poppy Appeal stand in Asda or Wyevale Garden Centre? There is a fantastic group of volunteers from last year but more are needed this year as it will be the centenary of the end of WWI and the appeal is expected to have a very high profile.

Please contact the Poppy Team via poppyappeal@marple-uk.com for more information, to order your wreath, or to volunteer for helping with collections.

Thank you

Kevin Murray, Marple Poppy Appeal Team
