Not the flats, they are looking smart now, but check out the woodwork down the park side of the old supermarket - not good!

I didn't think refurbishment meant putting another coat of paint on top of rotten window frames!

Yes, that is my understanding too. But I believe that local authorities have the power to acquire property if it is standing empty and falling into disrepair. Perhaps we should be persuading our councillors to take up this matter.
The truth, of course, is that the whole of the Hollins needs knocking down, all the way from Hanbury's to Barclay's Bank.

As I understand it, Co-op hold the lease to prevent competitors from openeing a store there like Tesco express or Sainsubry's local

Good idea. Anything (even a Wetherspoons) is preferable to leaving the Hanbury's building to crumble. It's a shocking eyesore. Why on earth doesn't Stockport Council slap a compulsory purchase order on it?

I'm not a huge fan of wetherspoons in general, and I'm not really sure that another pub is needed, but I do agree with the point that Marple could really do with a pub that isn;t tied to Robbies

Seen in the February edition of "Opening times" the CAMRA free mag. Lobbying with Wetherspoons to open the old Hanburys has taken place. The reply being" Marple is not an area that we consider of interest to us" A second letter has been sent asking them to reconsider.
