Minutes of Marple Community Council Meeting

 MARPLE COMMUNITY COUNCIL

MINUTES of the MCC EXECUTIVE MEETING held on Tuesday 14th October 2008 at
the Navigation Hotel, Marple, commencing at 7.30 pm

The Chairman opened the meeting at 7.40 pm and welcomed those present

2. Apologies for absence:

3. & 4. Minutes of Last Meeting and matters arising,
Minutes of the last meeting were accepted with the addition from A Moors that the Post
Office in Marple Bride remains open.
5. Police Report

No police in attendance. The Chairman reported attempted burglary @Marple Cricket Club
03.30 hrs. Sat.11th Oct. 08. 2-persons apprehended.

6. SMBC Councillors' Report
Andrew Bispham reported that mobile speed signs were to be placed on Station Road in a
couple of locations, in an attempt to slow down the traffic. It appears that the old Hanbury
building on the precinct will be used by the Coop as an electrical department. The issue of
school closures continues to rumble on. Following the “Proposed Closures” re: both the
Dale & Peacefield schools, pupils will be transferred to the Rose Hill School. There
continues to be problems with the drains in the Marple area which it this time of the year is
exacerbated by the falling leaves, nevertheless the underlying cause being the fact that they
are a Victorian system. It was requested from the floor that a concerted effort was made to
keep on top of the situation. The Councillor stated it was a matter of priorities using a
limited budget. The issue of paving came up again, particularly flagging, which continues to
be dangerous in many locations throughout the village. One such location is the immediate
area outside the library in the corner of the carpark. Councillor Bispham had in fact been
aware of the situation and advised the meeting that he would look at it again. The issue of
traffic charging in Stockport was raised and the meeting was advised that Stockport would
get nothing out of the proposals. The Metrolink developments had already been paid for and
Stockport was not going to be included in the system.

7. Treasurer's Report
The account stands at £788.28.

8. Secretary's Report

Misc. documentation that has been received, amongst which
11/9/08 - an invitation to Marple Carnival Committee to attend their Charity
Distribution subsequent to which the Chairman attended on behalf of the Marple
Community Council and received a cheque to the value of £50.00 which was gratefully
rec’d. & thanked for
/09/08 – Stockport impact newsletter – next meeting Friday the 21st of November at
Windlehurst church.
18/09/08 – Citizen’s Advice Bureau – AGM on Wed 22/10/08 and
OUR AGM 7.30pm on 10th November at Senior Citizen’s Hall
9. Sub-Committee Reports

a) CAB
P. Bardsley advised all were welcome to CAB meeting as above 22/10/08
b) Marple Area Committee
Cllr. A. Bispham made the suggestion that maybe a Bandstand could be installed in
Marple Memorial Park in the future. Further discussions will be forthcoming with
local associations. Both Marple Aikido Club & Mellor Football Club made
applications for donations to assist in their development. Both applications were
granted.

The Bridleway at “Roman Bridge” was discussed and following a Bridge engineer’s
survey the Bridge has been accepted as “safe” for horses to pass over however,
further discussion will be required re: the Parapet height. (note the bridge has been
closed to horse passage since 1977). Monitoring has also taken place into usage of
both Marple & High Lane Library’s with pleasing results.

c) MCRP
No meeting and none scheduled.

d) Transport, Highways and Works

10. Any Other Business
Cllr. A. Bispham raised the issue of the Bandstand as proposed by MAC and the idea was
well received by the members present, where it was generally emphasised that all were in
support of the Marple Band.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 9th. NOV.2008.
The Wreath for Marple Community Council has been rec’d. by the Chairman for the above.
Registration forms for the A.G.M were distributed at the meeting.

Jim Scotte thanked the members and visitors for their attendance, and the meeting ended at
