Canal Walks from Top Lock, Saturday and Sunday 11 & 12 September
Times: 10am, 12 noon and 2pm each day, meeting at Top Lock. Entry is FREE.
In Marple, the Peak Forest Canal has a magnificent flight of 16 locks, and crosses the valley of the River Goyt by a wonderful aqueduct, 100 feet above the river. Come and learn about why the locks and aqueduct were built and how they work, in the company of enthusiastic and knowledgeable local historians.
The walks will be similar. No booking required. Choose the time that suits you.
Gathering point: Top Lock at junction of Peak Forest and Macclesfield Canals (accessed from Stockport Road via Lock Side), 10 minutes before starting time.
Each walk will last 1½-2 hours and the pace will be slow with lots of stops to look at points of interest. Possible for wheelchairs with a ‘pusher’.
Robust, comfortable footwear and warm weatherproof clothing essential.
