Foreign Film Festival - Screening of I’m Not Scared (Salvatore, Italy 2002)
Marple and Cheadle College, 7.30pm
Summer in southern Italy. A boy discovers a cave, and in the cave a foot - which moves. A child is being held by kidnappers. The boy befriends him, but hesitates to act. This adaptation of a novel by co-writer Ammaniti lays on the atmosphere, and the director is clearly influenced by Gothic fairy tales and child's eye reveries like Night of the Hunter and To Kill a Mockingbird. It's a stylish suffusion of innocence and dread. Miramax snatched up international distribution rights, and it's easy to imagine a US remake down the line, directed by M Night Shyamalan...perhaps.
