You're right, of couse. I must say I ignored the 'road closed' signs and tiptoed along the edge of the river....

Yes. it's not easy for them, and I appreciate the work has to be done, but since there's no way round via a field path or anything, the signposting could have been better

The full width of the track is being resurfaced, so it has to be completely closed. But I don't think the works will last long. I have some sympathy for the people at Windybottom, who are having to park at Strawberry Hill and walk to and from their home. :-(

Roman Bridge Bridleway closure

Just a quick note to inform people that in their infinite wisdom, Stockport Council have decided to CLOSE the bridleway between Roman Bridge and the railway tunnel at Windybottom farm, here

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=396745&Y=387320&A=Y&Z=120

It's been closed while they lay concrete to repair the damage done to the track in the floods earlier this year. Fair enough, the track was in a right state and the work needs to be done. BUT - why close the whole track when it's the only route along the  valley floor? And more importantly, why not put signs up at reasonable places where a decision can be taken to take an alternative route? We came down from the Banks only to find on reaching the farm that the way was closed. Had we known, we could have gone down Linnet's Clough - instead we had to go along to Strines station to get back up to the main road. Someone in Stockport's Rights of Way office needs to apply some brain cells  :-\
