Marple citizen of the year

Can I say that "YES" the Community Council Executive Executive Committee will have this item placed on their agenda on 27th. November Meeting, please note we have moved our meetings to the library commencing at 7.30pm.
To do justice to this idea we will probably need to discuss and confirm the following:
- Agree the range of nominations to considered.
- Put together a small team of people who will "judge" nominations.
- Decide how to award a winning nomination, and probably seek sponsorship and publicity for the award(s).

We need to publicise "the idea" to the community also, probably use press, word of mouth, notices, this web site etc.

If anyone has any particular view on the above, please let me know, all correspondance will be placed before the Executive Committee of The Community Council, it is not the Executive alone who should decide these awards, it must come from the Marple Community.

I personally feel that the notion is a good one and would be welcomed within our community, but it needs thinking through to make it a success - it could do a lot of good for all sections of our community.

I feel sure that there would be many worthy candidates for consideration, for example pehaps I might include retired fire officer Peter Clarke. He does not know me by name, but I know him from observing and reading about the various activities he engages in around Marple for the benefit of it's citizens and heritage. There must be several other "unsung hero's" within our community.

Might I suggest that an email address be provided for members thoughts and ideas to be posted to Mr Taylor of the MCC when they feel enabled to process the idea.

I do not want to start a petty flame war about nettiquette but what exactly do you think  '>  means in a post? I ought to add that I've known the offended lady for many years also and can confirm that she is a trully caring person and will be sadly missed from  Marple

I do not know Mrs Middlemist personally, but I am aware of the sterling work that she has done within the community.

Can i reccomend Sylvia Middlemist for "The Community" award she has run Marple United Reformed Churches 2 Day Centres on behalf of the church and Marple Christian Care for around 15 years and this has gone largely unnoticed within the area.  The day centre has run for a number of years on Monday and Friday and it is entirely voluntary Sylvia has tirelessly devoted her time to this cooking meals on both days and helping organise the rest of the activities for the groups.
The monday day centre is for mainly elderly people who live alone etc and the Friday one is for the disabled (mainly again elderly but a few younger ones are there!'>

Unfortunately she is having to give this up this year as she and her Husband are moving from the area buit hey its never to late to say thank you is it!

They've been switched on before by local school kids.

MCC Exec. Committee has "kicked" this idea around in the past, in all honesty we have not pursued it !
However, we can have another go at at organising something.
We could seek nominations from the community, judged by a panel of local people, for an award to individuals who are nominated for services to:
Their neighbours
Their families
The Community

That makes at least three sections for awards (so far).

The closest we actually came to something along those lines was an idea to seek nominations for a Marple resident to turn on the Christmas lights- that idea was blocked I'm afraid.

A GOOD IDEA, thank you "Marple resident"- we will put some thought to this.
 

Could the MCC please advise me if there is such an award as
Marple Citizen ( and young citizen) of the year.

If there is not, then perhaps this might be food for thought and discussion.

Mr Taylor any advice please  ?
