Regarding Walmart's desire to displace urban corner store competition, ASDA has a list of abbreviations etc used in its internal communications which includes the term "Head to Head" which describes its policies towards competition from local retailers...

Came across this list of 101 business cock-ups on CNN’s website. Wal-Mart features 6 times, and I found particularly interesting their comment that the megaretailer “Should displace its urban corner-store competition”. The list’s from 2007 but I’m sure nothings changed. Wal-Mart’s other examples are items 1, 35,54, 73 and 86 on the list. The article is here – quite funny, worth reading.

When considering whether Asda will make a good neighbour here, I hope people will remember that they are not dealing with a cuddly Yorkshire retailer, but possibly the most ruthless corporation on the planet.
