Bright Star/Planet?

Over the next few days the crescent moon and venus are striking looking objects in the west

for this month you should be looking for saturn, and jupiter is also dead bright due south. You should be able to see the 4 moons Callisto, Ganymede, Io and Europa as bright points of light strung out like beads close to the main planet. There is a possible naked eye comet visible in May, I will keep updating my site for main points of interest

Hi George, just a quick thanks for your reply to my original message, It`s great that I can now check your star chart at those times when I get the urge to glance skywards !!
I only have a (Lumex 20x60mm Zoom) telescope, and more often than not just use the naked eye.
To have a guide, giving me an idea of what I`m looking at will be of great help '>

Hi, not been on for a while. Yes, the planet venus is very bright in the south west (looks good close to thin crescent moon right now). Also visible are saturn and Jupiter-you can see all 3 naked eye at same time around now. Jupiter is very bright high to south around 21:00, (with descent binocs you can see 4 of its moons strung out like beads). saturn is more difficult to pick out. I will put a star chart on my site at weekend to show the 3 planets - a bit busy with work right now.

Thanks for the reply Denise, I`ve just had a quick peek at Georges Site, I think the answer to my question was Venus, dont know about the one in the north you can see though ?
I`m often gazing out not really knowing what I`m looking at, but enjoy the therapy !!
March seems to have been very good so far for seeing lots of
bright stars/planets, I must Invest in a begginners astronomy guide soon !!

I was thinking abut George last night as I came home and saw that star/planet and another bright one in the North.  I have had a look at George's site and its a bit complicated and seems to focus on satellites.  What would be really good if George could post on here occassionally with a note about anything different/unusual in the sky to see like the bright stars/planets at the moment (in really simple language!'>. '>

We have a fellow called George Amos who lives in Marple and is a keen astronomer. He posts messages in the forum occasionally about satellites and the like that are visible from Marple. If he's around I'm sure he'll be able to tell you.

In the past I was able to see the Shuttle docking with the space station by following his instructions, which was quite impressive.

Hi, Looking towards the south / southwest tonight I notice an extreamely bright star or planet, could anyone tell me what I am looking at ?
