The flyer is daft, even by MIA standards. I would hazard a guess at Miss Marple, whose preferred forum is now twitter:

She is still directing FOI requests at the college.

Well that elicited a rapid response! - she has promptly protected her tweets. Guilty conscience perhaps?

I can assure you that David Hoyle does not know EVERTHING that Marple in Action are doing.

That sums MIA up they don't know what they are doing what a shambles .

Marple in Action Chairman David Hoyle has confirmed that the "Act NOW to Block Asda" leaflet was not published by Marple in Action.

... no-one in their right mind will take any of it seriously.

Unless you happen to live on any of the streets around the Hibbert Lane site, in which case you will know it's all true.

No, wherever you live you cannot 'know' that any of it is true.   It is all pure speculation, and much of it is such hopelessly poor speculation that it's an insult to anyone's intelligence.

Let's take the leaflet's claims one by one:

1.   A 'massive increase' in traffic?    Most of the traffic to Asda is already on the roads, heading for other shops and supermarkets.   Asda will not magically create new shoppers.   Obviously there will be more traffic in and around Hibbert Lane, but this will be offset by less traffic elsewhere.

2.   'Say goodbye to letting your children play out on the streets'.   This is so ridiculous!   No-one in their right mind lets their children play out in the middle of Hibbert Lane!   And Asda is very unlikely to make any difference to those quiet side roads where children can play safely.

3.  'Research has shown nearby property prices falling by an average of 20%'.   Not any research that I have seen.  This document shows property prices falling slightly in the period before a new supermarket is built, but subsequently rising to near or above their previous levels once the supermarket is open.  http://www.trfund.com/resource/downloads/policypubs/supermarkets.pdf

4.  'The library, swimming pool and post office may close'.  Yes, and the world will come to an end tomorrow.................    ;D

I understand the following flyer has been published by MIA.
What makes you think it's from MIA, there is no logo on it or anything that states it's from MIA?

Ask them trouble is you won't receive answer back

Good point Victor - we may be jumping to the wrong conclusion.  Although MIA does have 'previous' in this sort of alarmist stuff. But this is hysterical even by their standards.  It's only one stop short of 'let Asda in and there'll be paedophiles moving in to the neighbourhood'.   ::)
