"A number of us attended Greater Manchester Archaeology Day 2015 at Salford University on 28th November. It was an excellent day with an interesting variety of presentations. I gave a presentation about the significant milestones during 2015 at Mellor Mill. One of my slides was the wonderful Reconstruction Drawing, courtesy of Malcolm Melia, of the Boiler and Engine Rooms. It is so good I just want to share it with everyone. Malcolm is a volunteer artist to the Mellor Mill project."

The engine & boiler house building, constructed in 1860, which is detached from the main Mellor Mill, housed the Lancashire Boiler and two horizontal steam engines, manufactured by Goodfellows of Hyde. The installation of steam was such a notable event that after the engines had been given their trial run, a celebration dinner was held for managers and overlookers at the Navigation Inn, Marple. By 1877 new technology was available and the engines were replaced. The original steam engines were put up for sale and the following is the sale notice from the Manchester Guardian. (December 18th 1877)

Community Dig April 2015

We've been working hard, as usual, to progress the site.  The Community Dig last week was a really great step forward and we hope that many of those who attended will come back to volunteer at weekends.  The "Big Digger" has made a huge difference to progress and we now feel we are on track to hit our aim of completing the mill site within one year. Come on down and see us to have a chat any Saturday or Sunday between 10am and 4pm ww would love to see you and give you the latest update.
