What a great read. Read from start to finish in the back garden on Monday evening. Some fantastic stories of old!! Including the naked runner in the 1800's who was carried back to the Navi' and heralded a hero only to be arrested a few days later, and the local bobby seemingly sacked for turning a blind eye to it!

Excellent! It's a great book.

I have two copies, one a first issue with the expensive cover (colour photo on the front) that Jack gave me.

It's amazing how many of the pubs that were still here when Jack wrote it are gone now.
There is another very interesting Book History of public houses of Bredbury And Romiley by Anthony Keith Turner ,similar to The Marple one .

I have a copy of Last Orders Please, The Origins and History of Taverns, Inns and Public Houses of Marple, Compstall, Mellor and High Lane, by Jack Turnbull, published 1988 with updated notes from 2009.
I bought it when i moved to Marple in 2010, but now its gathering dust.  Anybody want it ?
