It’s PARADE TIME!!!!!!

So about now we’d all be lining the streets, the balloons would be flying, the music would be at max volume and the excitement would be palpable

Be this year our plans have been scuppered  .... not to worry though..... we present to you instead our virtual carnival, a walk down nearly 6 decades of parades!

Happy watching.....

Nearly 60 years of fun with Marple Carnival on hold!

As we approach the date scheduled for the 2020 Carnival cancelled due to Covid19, take a little look back at Marple Carnival's roots and history on the main site:

Here's a little video about the great business support received by Marple Carnival

As much as we are all sad about not having a carnival this year, we are also mindful that this is a massive loss of a key trading day for our local businesses. We have tried to include as many as possible here but we are so grateful to all the businesses that have supported us for so long. Please feel free to use this post to advertise your own logo. Here is our little message to them and the people of Marple..... x

As we approach what would have been Marple Carnival 2020 this coming Saturday the Marple Carnival Team are marking what would have been a great weekend online.

Kicking off with a look-back at the array of Carnival programmes since 1962!

As it’s one week until we should have been kicking off Marple’s biggest party of 2020 🎉 we thought that we would mark the occasion by still bringing to you all the things that make the carnival and Marple great! 🥰 Watch out over the next week - you might spot yourself, family member, business or just a nice memory! We’re kicking off with a trip down memory lane of all of the themes and programmes over the last 6 decades.

Please note that Marple Carnival Committee has applied to Stockport MBC for permission to hold its annual carnival parade on Saturday 20th June 2020.

The parade will congregate at The Recreation Ground from 11.30 hrs and will require the closure of Oldknow Road to all vehicular traffic from this time.

The  parade procession also requires the closure of roads in the centre of Marple from 13.00 hrs to 14.30 hrs. These closures will occur on a phased basis and will also impact adjoining minor roads in the area.

The major roads affected are: Oldknow Road, Arkwright Road, Strines Road, Stockport Road, Hollins Lane, Hibbert Lane, Church Lane, Buxton Lane, Cross Lane, Bowden Lane and Station Road.

Taking Part in the Marple Carnival Parade

The Marple Carnival parade is a very important part of Carnival Day. People line the streets to cheer the local groups and entertainment acts. It is also a great way to publicise you organisation or local business - for free! The application form and some useful information if you are interested in taking part can be found on the Marple Carnival web site:

https://www.marplecarnival.org.uk/the-parade.html

This year the theme is "Playtime!", let's have even more fun than last year :)

Getting fed-up with this. Why exactly does the parade have to come down Buxton Lane, never mind block it for over an hour? Not only cluttering up the road but making a loud and hideous noise on a lane which is mainly inhabited by elderly (and in some cases - unwell people).

I can't tell whether you are just putting this for attentions sake or if you really are as miserable as sin.  Unfortunately I fear it's the latter.

This is a leap year, which means it contains 8784 hours and you complain about beind inconvenienced for a single hour (which is 0.011% of your year) for an event which many people enjoy and which raises significant sums for charity. What a killjoy.

At least you've been given plenty of notice so you can go out for the day and pretend it never happened.

Please be advised that Marple Carnival Committee has submitted an application to Stockport MBC to close roads in the centre of Marple on Saturday 20th June 2020.

Oldknow Road, Strines Road, Stockport Road, Hibbert Lane, Buxton Lane and Cross Lane (and roads adjoining these) will be closed to vehicular traffic as the parade proceeds. Closures will follow a phased programme from 13.00 hrs - 14.30 hrs and roads will re-open once the parade has passed.

Oldknow Road will be closed from 11.30 hrs until 14.30 hrs.
