Macclesfield Canal closed between Bridge 2 (Ring 'o Bells) and Bridge 3 (Goyt Mill)CRT has advised navigation is closed between the Marple Junction and Bridge 3 on the Macclesfield Canal following a recent inspection which has identified concerns with stability of the embankment. Stop planks are being placed in to the canal to allow our engineers to investigate further and restrict movement within the affected area.
The Tow Path is open.
Update 4 March 2020:Please be advised our contractors are installing dams onsite today. The dams are being placed in the canal between Bridge 2, Church Lane Bridge and Bridge 3, Eccles Bridge on the Macclesfield Canal, reducing the affected area of the closure. Once the dams are in place, we will undertake a Ground Penetrating Radar Survey to ascertain the extent of the issue.
Please note the location and title of this notice has been amended to reflect this new information. Original closure was between the Marple Junction and Bridge 4 on the Macclesfield Canal.
If you are between our closure at Bollington and Bridge 3, your nearest waterpoint is at Bridge 14 and Marple Services can be accessed via the towpath.
An update will be provided Tuesday, 10 March 2020.For more information see:
