A quieter task day than usual yesterday but still plenty done. To read more see about the Friends of the Park Task Days visit: www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/tasks.htm

The next task day in the park will be held on Saturday 28th March 2009 between 10am and 1pm and we would be delighted if you could come along for however long you can between these times. Stout footwear and suitable clothing should be worn and bring your own gardening gloves if you have them. All tools will be provided.

Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The 31st January Task Day went well and I updated the Friends web site but didn't post anything here as we were having server problems. Just catching up now.

Yesterday's task day in the park was well attended and saw the completion of the Breathing Places project behind the library.

The Friends will be having a well earned break in December, so the next task day in the park will be held on Saturday 31st January 2009 between 10am and 1pm. We would be delighted if you could come along for however long you can between these times. Stout footwear and suitable clothes should be worn and bring your own gardening gloves if you have them. All tools will be provided.

Yesterday's Task Day / Wildflower planting event went well - the weather held off just long enough for the Beavers to do a great job in the woodland behind the library.

The next task day in the park will be held on Saturday 29th November 2008 between 10am and 1pm and we would be delighted if you could come along for however long you can between these times. Stout footwear and suitable clothes should be worn and bring your own gardening gloves if you have them. All tools will be provided.

The next task day in Memorial Park is a special one on Saturday 25th October. We will be planting wildflowers in the Breathing Places behind the library and also in the nature area running down from the cinema and along by the canal. We would like as many people as possible to join in this event, which is part of the BBC "Do One Thing" campaign for local people to do one thing for nature in their area.

The event will run from 10am to 1pm. Everyone is welcome to join in for as long as they wish during these times. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please wear suitable clothing and gloves and bring your own spade or trowel if you can.

If you have the facility to diplay this poster anywhere, then please download a copy:

There was a good turnout for our fun Petanque Tournament and it seemed like everyone had a great time christening the new French Boules Court yesterday. You can read more about it on the Friends of Memorial Park web site at www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/boules.htm

There are also more picture in the Virtual Tour at  http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=63

Anybody wishing to give the game a try can borrow a set of boules from Bob Wilson, the Community Parks Officer who is usually in the park during normal hours. You will need to pay a £10 deposit, which is fully refundable providing that the set is returned to Bob complete and intact. Alternatively, you can buy an extremely good value set from ALDI in Romiley for only £5 while their stocks last.

The next Task Day in Memorial Park is Saturday 27th September between 10am and 1pm. As usual everyone is welcome to join in for as long as they wish during these times.

Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

A quick reminder about the Fun French Boules Tournament in Memorial Park, tomorrow. Gladys Romm, the lady whose idea it was, has just been interviewed by Pure Radio's Pete Liggins. The interview will be broadcast again this afternoon at 4.30pm on Pure 107.8FM but Pete has also kindly given us an mpeg copy that we have uploaded to the Friends of the Park site:

www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/boules.htm

Everyone is welcome to join in - We suggest bringing your own food and drink if you plan to stay a while, and perhaps a chair or blanket to sit on. You can also bring your own set of Boules if you have them but this is not essential. We have no idea how many people will turn up, or what the weather will be like, but we hope to spend an enjoyable afternoon using the new court.

The next weekend Task Day in Memorial Park is Saturday 26th July between 10am and 2pm. As usual everyone is welcome to join in for as long as they wish during these times.

A few volunteers who can make it will also be helping to plant more bedding plants in the ornamental borders on Wednesday 2nd July from 10am. Anyone is welcome to join in too and maybe a week day will suit some better than at the weekend, you never know.

The web site has been updated with a report on the Task Day today, see www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/tasks.htm

Howard - I can confirm that there is little or no sign of the small trees we planted in October, which is a shame. My guess is that the mower went over them. A lesson learnt there I think.

We've also had some more vandalism - this time the solar powered light has been removed from the insect study centre and smashed. Must have been great fun?

They were still there last time I checked but that was a couple of months ago. I guess either one of your suggestions is possible but I will look into it.

On a recent tour of the park I was most disappointed to find that someone has broken off several of the welded metal leaves from the Coronation Bench. Must have taken quite an effort so hopefully they felt gratified after their endeavours.

Mark, any idea what happened to the trees that we planted in ht e NE corner of the park, against the Garth Road hedge in October 2007? I can't see anything there any more. I guess that the grass-mowing tractor went over the top of them or they were pulled out by yobbos. The big one against the northern edge, against Station Road is still there.
