A brand new album featuring photos of Marple District Centre taken by Marple UDC in 1970 and stored in Marple Local History Society archives has been added to the Virtual Tour over the last couple of days. This is a fascinating snapshot of local history and documents a major change to the town centre. Interesting that it has found it's way to the top of the pile of folders at a time when new changes seem to be afoot for this area of the town!

Added to the Virtual Tour today are some Jinks family photos from Marple Local History Society Archives. Unfortunately these are scans from poor quality photo copies, so they are not great images. What a shame we can't get our hands on the originals to scan properly

Arthur Procter has taken photos of Dan Bank in approximately the same positions for the last 4 years, before during and after the stabilisation works.
Spring has been a little later this year but we now have the 2012 photos on line:

In the same album are some new photos from Bill Beard of the Otterspool Bridge Hydro Power scheme.
Also, Bill has sent in some photos of flooding at Cataract Mill:

The Virtual Tour has been updated with some new images of the Macnair Court rebuilding taken by Arthur:

And to celebrate today's wonderful weather, a trip back in time to the 1940 when they really had it bad. There have been a few photos of the train snowed in at Rose Hill in the Virtual Tour for some years but now we have a whole album of photos from Marple Local History Society Archive of the winter of 1940.
It's not always easy to tell where the photos are taken, so it you can help with the captions, please do. And Ray, is there a couple of shots of your dad in this lot? It looks like Jim Noble but can you please confirm?

A very special treat for you local history enthusiasts! Gordon Mill's video "Marple's Changing Face" has been added to the Virtual History Tour of Marple. Enjoy!
http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=122
The video is divided into 5 parts for ease of viewing and lasts a total of approximately 50 minutes.
If you are using the standard Media Player you should be able to right-click on the video and zoom to 200% to view at a larger scale with little loss of clarity.

Thanks are due to Bill Beard, Axel Thomas and Arthur Procter for these.

There is also a trio of photos from yesterday's Charity Car Wash at Marple Fire Station taken by Terry Wood.
