Two batches of photos have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning - one features the demolition of Woodville Hall in 1994, and the other Turf Lea and Marple Ridge. It's interesting, and a little sad, to do a search for "Woodville" and compare these photos with the ones took by Ray Noble in 1993.

Some photos of the widening works at Dan Bank taken by Arthur, a couple of shots of the Norfolk Arms by David Burridge and a c1907 family shot taken at Roman Bridge that looks its age have been added to the Tour this afternoon.

Another of the Marple Local History Society videos featuring local people talking about their memories has been uploaded to the Virtual Tour. This one is of Barbara Hambleton, who moved to Marple bridge in 1936 at the age of 17, talking in 1996 to Gordon Mills as he filmed her.

The 28 minute VHS video has been converted to digital format and uploaded in three segments to make it easier for visitors to view without having to start at the beginning every time.

RUNAWAY MOTOR HITS SHOP   
An accident of an extraordinary character occurred on Brabyns Brow on Monday. Mr Wilfred Woodhouse of Stockport Road. Marple was driving a motor car down the Brow about 7.15pm when the back axle broke and he lost control and had to leap for his life. The car went down the steep incline at a great speed, zig-zagging as it went along. It then crashed into the shop of Miss Wood, draper & newsagent, at the bottom of the Brow.
It knocked a great hole in the building and covered the inside of the shop with dust. The spare wheel of the motorcar broke away from its fastening and was sent whirling across the road and it entered the lobby of the Midland Hotel, and struck the door and burst it open. Mr Jubb, the licensee, was struck by the woodwork of the door. The motorcar was badly smashed. The windscreen was broken and the ironwork was bent, twisted and broken. Fortunately there were no very serious injuries. (HPR 3.11.1923)
