Eight images of Park & Paterson's labs in the early 1970s provided by Mark Shawcross (who worked there between 1980 - 1983) have been added to the Park & Paterson album this evening:

Four images from Marple Local History Society Archives feauring Marple Metal Products during WW2 have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning. Marple Metal Products Engineering Works was at the junction of Church Lane / Hibbert Lane near to the Hatters Arms. It was formerly the Gem Cinema and later the GPO building.

If you know more about this or if you recognise any of the people in the photos, please let me know.

A brand new album has been added to the Tour this morning featuring photographs of Park & Paterson's foundry that was situated on Cross Lane. There are some great images in this collection from Marple Local History Society Archives but unfortunately only one of them is dated. So if you can provide any information that would enable more of them to be dated it would be very helpful. I suspect that the black and white photos featuring workers Les Houghton, Malcolm Ashton, Jim Frost, Stan Geldart, Hugh McMullen and Bill Evans are from the 50s or 60s but it's had to tell from the way they're dressed. If you know more please get in touch.

There were also two separate newspaper cuttings (undated) featuring James and Emma Law and Mr B. J. Nutt, see http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-45

A handful of photos from Marple Local History Society's "Market Street" folder have been added to the Tour this morning, along with several more Carnival photos from Ray, this time dating from 1995.

And there's more! Ray has found a few more from the early 1990s:

Thanks Ray!

Some vintage carnival photos from Axel Thomas have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning. Have you got any like these tucked away in a drawer? Wouldn't it be fun to share them?

Ray Noble has responded by providing 18 photos of Marple Carnival Parade taken between 1976 and 1989 that have just been added to the Tour: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-34

Look out for a young man holding a trombone, which is a clue to his identity  :)

Plenty of room for more folks!

I've just uploaded the 5,000th image to the Virtual Tour and to commemorate this milestone I've made sure it's a special one that I've been saving from Marple Local History Society's Archives. It's of the Carver family on the steps of Hollins House in 1904 during the celebrations of Thomas and Hannah Carver's Golden Wedding anniversary.

You're right BS, it's looking along Highfield Road off Union Road in the direction of Stockport. On Google Streetmaps there's enough detail to recognise the houses/walls on the left-hand side of the picture. Well done. Another person emailed me with the same suggestion too.

It was past the Post Office going down stockport Road.I think it is the Kinaray now.The green area to the right of the picture is still there.

I think the unknown workshop could be the old Grandalek t.v company, it was behind the shops on stockport Rd behind what was the Mysore Indian restaurant.

Where was the Mysore Restaurant? I seem to have missed that one.

Also ,if it is where I think it is, the road is still unadopted and a terrace of houses now stands on the site of Grandalek.

Photographs from a Marple Local History Society folder entitled "People Named" (which is not a totally accurate title) have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning. These include some mysterious people and locations and if you can shed any light on them it would be greatly appreciated.
