A handful of great photos from Marple Carnivals past, including some from 1963, provided by Arthur Procter have been added to the Vintage Carnival album this evening:

The Virtual Tour has been updated with some new images of the Macnair Court rebuilding taken by Arthur:

And to celebrate today's wonderful weather, a trip back in time to the 1940 when they really had it bad. There have been a few photos of the train snowed in at Rose Hill in the Virtual Tour for some years but now we have a whole album of photos from Marple Local History Society Archive of the winter of 1940.

It's not always easy to tell where the photos are taken, so it you can help with the captions, please do. And Ray, is there a couple of shots of your dad in this lot? It looks like Jim Noble but can you please confirm?

Bill Beard has sent a couple of shots of the river Goyt swamping the temporary causeway at Chadkirk Bridge after recent rain:

A very special treat for you local history enthusiasts! Gordon Mill's video "Marple's Changing Face" has been added to the Virtual History Tour of Marple. Enjoy!

http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=122

The video is divided into 5 parts for ease of viewing and lasts a total of approximately 50 minutes.

If you are using the standard Media Player you should be able to right-click on the video and zoom to 200% to view at a larger scale with little loss of clarity.

More photos showing progress on the Chadkirk Bridge, the bridleway through Marple Dale Wood and the Hydro Power Generator at Otterspool Bridge have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning.

Thanks are due to Bill Beard, Axel Thomas and Arthur Procter for these.

A number of present day photos showing the ongoing works for Chadkirk Bridge at Marple Dale and also Otterspool Bridge on Dooley Lane taken by Bill Beard have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning.

There is also a trio of photos from yesterday's Charity Car Wash at Marple Fire Station taken by Terry Wood.

The Virtual Tour has been updated this morning with some photos taken at last weekend's opening of the Mellor Mill Wheel Pit by Bill Beard and Arthur Procter, plus some from Arthur of the ongoing works at Marple Station.

Wheel Pit: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=121
Station: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-23

Also four vintage gems provided by Heather Plevin (nee Hines), who is David Myers' auntie, have been added. Heather lived at Flood Gates Cottage between 1939 and 1954 and can be seen rowing her elder brothers on Roman Lakes in one of the photos.

Do you, your parents, grandparents, aunties or uncles have any wonderful shots like this tucked away in a drawer or the loft. If so, please share them with us:

Before anyone else is up (in our house) I've managed to create a new album to cover Albert Schools and add several new images from Marple Local History Society's archives and move all existing images into the same location.

Several photos from a Marple Local History Society folder of All Saints' School have been uploaded to the Virtual Tour this morning and a new album has been created to hold all the All Saints' School photos.

http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=26

I'm not convinced that one of the photos isn't the Albert School that has been misfiled. Does anyone know?
