MikeinFrance’s reply to my email on promoting Marple may give some people the impression that I am trying to compete with Marple Web Site, which of course I am not. It is an excellent Web Site, but for many, particularly those arriving at Rosehill from along the Middlewood Way they will not have researched the possibilities. Many of those I talk to would rather be riding their bikes than surfing the Web and we should be telling them what delights are in the vicinity.
Away from Britain, or at least away from Stockport, you find villages that have a village plan on the outskirts with details of shops, hotels etc. One little town - smaller than Marple - that we visited about 30 miles from Seattle, had a notice board with a telephone where you could phone the advertised hotels simply by pressing a button. We have a plethora of interesting sites in and around Marple that practically only the residents know about. It is these things we need to get the Council to recognise otherwise we could well end up with more expensive, useless corporate notice boards similar to those that have appeared in all the Parks.
In the Weaver Valley the nearby College has produced a beautiful iron gate, amongst other things. So things like this can be done in Britain. We have a College in Marple, perhaps they should have an input into how Marple should be portrayed. Unfortunately one voice is insufficient; hence the plea for local residents to get involved.
