Willows School Rambling Club Cine Film Reels

Filmed by Frank "Pop" Mason in the 1960s / 1970s, these film reels were converted to digital by the North West Film Archives for Frank's daughter Ann Papageorgiou. They have been published on the main site via YouTube with Ann's permission today for the first time as part of the Willows School Rambling Club Diaries.

They will be of most interest to former pupils of the Willows School who attended the Rambling Club walks and holidays during the 1960s - 1970s, or perhaps their children or even grandchildren. If you spot yourself or a parent, grandparent, friend of relative, please do let us know.

Willows School Rambling Club Diaries Relaunched

I am delighted to relaunch the Willows School Rambling Club Diaries today: https://www.marple.website/willows-walks.html

The diaries were originally launched on the Marple Website on the 1st January 2008 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the club begun by Frank "Pop" Mason in December 1957.

They were created in collaboration with Frank's daughter, Ann Papageorgiou in fond memory of her father.

Unfortunately the early software used to create the original diaries stopped working properly several years ago.

In January 2020 migration to the main Marple Website was completed, so that the diaries are once again available for anyone who may have an interest in those bygone times.

Did you, or maybe your parents, go on these walks and holidays between 1957 and 1974?

Very interesting! Found my mum on there. But sadly no information or pictures
If any one has any from 1964 Visit to Aaron. I would love to see them. Her name by the way was Pat Shaw, unfortunatley no longer with us so I can't ask her about it.
Thanks in advance Tina

A brand new feature has been added to the Marple Website this morning with the unveiling of the Willows School Rambling Club Diaries.

This is a tribute to school teacher Frank "Pop" Mason, who introduced pupils of the Willows to the pleasures of rambling between 1957 and 1974, and a celebration of the 50th anniversary since he first began leading the walks in December 1957. It is a collaboration with his daughter, Ann.

If you went to school at the Willows and participated in these walks or the holidays to Youth Hostels in the Lake District, Wales, Scotland or the Isle of Arran it is likely that your name is included for the times you were involved. Just use the search feature to find out.

If you have your own recollections or photographs from these times, or if you can help with captions for the existing photos then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Unfortunately there are not so many photos for later years but we have recently received two DVD worth of converted cine film that we hope to add to the site in the near future, when we've worked out what's on it and the best was to incorporate the material.

If you have neighbours, friends or relatives who may have participated in the Willows walks or holidays then please tell them about the site so they can take a trip down memory lane.</font>
