Lyme does have a policy of you NOT picking up dog poo, (apart from the car park areas) - they don't supply litter bins, and regularly say that in the woods, or fields it will quickly decompose.

They do encourage you to remove it from the footpaths, (a quick flick with a stick usually does the job) - they are not overly happy about people who collect the poo in bags, and then abandon the bag.

I was walking along the canal bank some little time ago, and came across about 10 bags of poo nicely stacked in the hedgerow.  To be honest, it would have been better to leave the poo to rot  - the bags may be biodegradeable, but it'll take years for them to vanish. The poo will be gone in a few days... hey ho !

thanks i know all dog owners don't pick it up and believe me it really  annoys me as well if you are going to have a dog be responsible

Alan, I was just thinking the same, nobody has ever but "all" dog owners........but as the old saying goes "if the cap fits" etc etc

i have 2 dogs and pick it up every single time and then put it in the next bin i come too my dogs have the faces of bambi but the back ends of a donkey dont tie all dogowners together  some of us do care.................

I had a walk around Lyme park at the weekend and could not believe the amount of little bags of treasure left on the ground

I agree with you, Neil, about the problem of dog owners picking up the mess and then just leaving it on the ground in a plastic bag, as if someone else is supposed to come along and take it away for them   

As far as Lyme Park is concerned, this is the National Trust's guidance to dog owners on the subject, which seems very sensible to me: 

Never leave poo where people walk, play or picnic. We ask that if your dog fouls, particularly in car parks and on paths, you pick up and remove the mess. Flick it into rough grass or woodland, or take it away with you and dispose of it at home. There may be dedicated bins to put it in at heavily used sites.

Well, I was looking through my window into next doors garden and I saw a cat dig a hole, have a poo, and then cover it up!

I bought an ultra sound cat detector detterant for my garden as cats were fouling my new front lawn   and one for the back garden where it is graveled ( huge litter tray  )  I think they are about £30 in garden centres, but exact same one was £14.00  at amazon.co.uk for exact same one including postage

Its definately worked  ,  not had any more problems since I put it in ... it drives my children mad as they can hear it, but adults can't , but it does have an off switch if we are sat in the garden .

But I had a call from my neighbour, someone had put an anonymous note through the door complaining about their  cat spraying and smelling their house out as it likes to wonder inside  ... Im just glad its not my house , tom cat spray whiffs

It's not just dogs that carry toxocariasis, cats carry a variant to, but few people get on their soap box about domestic cats doing their business in other peoples gardens. It would be nice if they bagged it up and took it home but I guess as cats they think it's beneath them. Just remember to wash your hands after gardening, particularly if you don't wear gloves. Arguably far more chance of innocently picking up toxocariasis in your garden than from dog poo (which is far from innocent

Dog poo on pavements is one thing, but Lyme Park!! Do you expect the sheep poo and deer poo to be picked up for you as well?

Dave to the best of my knowledge deer and sheep poo does not carry the disease toxocariasis but dogs do.

Horse poop doesnt bother me, its mainly grass, but dog dirt makes me feel pysically sick

Dave, I'm with Neil on this. If you dog poops in the woods off the beaten track, then fair enough. However, if you've taken the trouble to scoop the poop, why sling your plastic bag when you get bored of carrying it?

AGreed, if you pick it up, take the bag home. however if your dog poops on a  path in the woods, doesn't mean you can leave it. Off the path (and a fair way off the path at that, not just by the side), fair enough, but more and more people seem to believe that if you can't get a car there it's a dog toilet. Bring back the dog licence and make it expensive

 dogs with owners are domesticated animals, totaly different to sheep and deer pooping all over the place .  Dog owners have a responsibility to clean up after their dogs, if they are not responsible enough, they shouldnt have a dog ( in my opinion )

Im with Alan @ Marple, its a disgrace the amount of muck on the pavements , and down the middlewood way, half the time its just used as a toilet area for dogs .

The Rugby pitch which is supposed to be private is another area , its not fair on the people using it , getting splattered in mud is one thing playing rugby, but getting splattered in doggy doo is just not nice .

Up the fines , and actually make a point of dog wardens being seen  might make a difference .
