Competition is all well and good but could Marple support 2 supermarkets, probably not. There are a number of alternative supermarkets located within 5 miles (2 Tesco, 2 Sainsbury's, 1 Morrissons & 2 Asda's) + just think of the impact on the local roads, remember Bredbury before the supermarket was built. What makes  Marple unique is the number of small independent retailers, most areas don't even have one butchers or green grocers, the last thing Marple needs is another supermarket. If Asda or Tesco were interested in improving competition locally they would put on free local buses like in other areas, but they don't so I can only assume they are not interested.

Of course Littlewoods would have a petition against it. As would Wilsons. As will the Co-op probably.

They don't want any competition.

They want to carry on charging whatever prices they want.

Competition is good. Choice is good.

But they're not caused by Asda. Yet.

no, they're caused by the building works which are being done to enable people to get into the asda car park as easily as they can to sainsburys. That access wasn't there while it was a co-op, it was only when asda bought it that the works were done...

Anyway, if the Council were concerned about traffic they wouldn't have approved the entrance/exit on the A6 for the Asda store in Hazel Grove.

THere are and will be traffic problems around Sainsbury and the Asda in Hazel grove, Stockport COuncil just don't seem to care about them...

its the college building not co-op
What do you mean .no chance traffic problems ,stop spreading rumours ..

The Co-op doesn't cause traffic problems. Why should another supermarket cause any?

It'll be interesting to see which supermarket it could be:

Asda - doubt it. Too close to their new store at Hazel Grove.
Tesco - Only a few miles from their 24 hour store in Stockport and they have a Tesco Express in Hazel Grove
Sainsburys - have a store in Hazel Grove and an express in Romiley
Morrisons - too close to their Bredbury store
Waitrose - Mmmm! That could do well. We don't have a quality supermarket in the area.

All just my opinions of course.

This rumor has resurfaced. Everyone chattering about it in Wilson's this morning. It's either Asda or Tesco
