I also agree Alan :)

Not that have any real clue but i thought that obe s etc were based on recommendations from ordinary folk.. or at least non royal types.. ie councils and councillors?

Whilst I am pleased to see " Local Hero's" recognised for  very low paid work, or voluntary work within the community, I really cannot appreciate any justification in awarding Knighthoods. OBE'S etc
to individuals who have chosen to taken on a very well paid career accompanied by a healthy pension provided by the council tax payers or shareholders.

I noted that our recently retired Stockport MBC Chief Executive received an OBE. It may well be considered that he has done an outstanding job, his reward an outstanding remuneration!

I would for example have liked to have seen  "Ralph" the lollipop man from the crossing at The Drive and Stockport Rd who has done a sterling Job in all weathers for the children and for little reward. I understand now he has retired with ill health.

And what about "Carnival Bill" soon to retire, his reward?, the approbation of the community and the satisfaction of having done a voluntary job well!

I am sure there are many other worthy candidates, so lets think about it for next year!
