How was the course altered this year to make it 10k?

They added on some distance past Middlewood station before turning back and also changed the part when you go up through the woods. Instead of the muddy field we kept to a path all the way so it was much less muddy than previously. I really enjoyed it this year - I was much fitter than in my other runs.

I knew the course was short! I've measured it several times using online tools and reckoned it was 9.575 kms at best. That said, it's not a flat run, the total rise being 36 metres. I also think the hill climb once you've run across the large field is rather gruelling. I'd also prefer a run that started and finished at the same point.

How was the course altered this year to make it 10k?

For the last two years injury has prevented me taking part in my first race! Next year ... my target being an hour!

This was great fun again. I was a bit disappointed this year because I really put the miles in to make sure that I beat my previous times. I was so disappointed to only beat it by 5 seconds when I came in a 45:40! Then I was told that all previous courses have actually been 9.6k instead of a full 10k so I could take around 1:30-2:00 off that.

All in all this was great fun and I'm definitely entering next year.

Latest news on the 10k run is that there will be massages available to competitors both before and after the race in return for a donation to the Fire Fighters' Charity. The massages will be provided by Jane Murray of Sports Massage.
