THis is a good thread. Whilst there has been some good fact-finding going on, there will be a stage of saturation. It's good that only Neil obtains the FOI info and others approach the various officers but we should ensure we only have one person asking the questions otherwide the various officers are going to be inundated with requests and we will not obtain much more han a staock answer.

Can I suggest that after the meeting tomorrow, there is a further meetign to co-ordinate who is to approach which office i.e. person a approaches the council, person b approaches the college, person c speaks to Andrew Stunell, Tesco  etc,. There will be a danger that people we would natuarally have onside end up getting peeved off with the whole thing.

For those attending the Marple Area Committee Meeting at Marple Library on Wednesday 27th July, here is a link to the agenda documents:

    http://democracy.stockport.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?MId=324

I understand that the topic of the College site is to be taken under item 4c - Public Question Time

    Quote
    4.(c) Public Question Time
Members of the public are invited to put questions to the Chair of the Area Committee on any matters within the powers and duties of the Area Committee, subject to the exclusions set out in the Code of Practice (questions must be submitted prior to the commencement of the meeting on the cards provided. These are available at the meeting and on the Council’s website at (link doesn't work).

In view of this requirement it would be of benefit to go well prepared with questions to put on the cards prior to the meeting. Even better perhaps to fill the cards out before hand but the link that says these are available on-line doesn't work, so maybe it would help to contact Officer: Steve Fox 0161 474 3206 email: stephen.fox@stockport.gov.uk to get a supply. Also check out if there are limits to how many questions individuals can ask.

    Dear Belle
The meeting is held in Marple Library starting at 6pm.

    Kindest regards
    Susan Ingham

I understand that the Marple Area Committee Meetings are now in the Senior Citizens Hall. Better check this or everyone will go to the wrong place on 27th! http://www.marple-uk.com/smf/index.php?topic=207.0

Mark - sure thing, good idea, now submitted, summary updated below too.  I'll also try a lookup on the Land Registry site (covenants covered here) when they open for business again tomorrow.

Neil, in light of the lack of information forthcoming from Paul Lawrence as described by Catwomen, I think an extra FOI is needed. As you have this aspect almost sewn up under your name can I suggest that you should post another to Stockport Council along the following lines:

We would like to request copies of all documents relating to the historic ownership of the land presently occupied by the Cheadle and Marple Hibbert Lane Campus site and the adjoining green and car park (if they are owned separately). We are specifically seeking documents relating to the chain of events that resulted in ownership of this land by the council and subsequent transfer of ownership to the college, if the land was purchased or gifted, by whom, when and under what circumstances. We also request copies of any covenants relating to the sale or transfer of the land and any restrictions on the use of the land or parts of it.

I've added a post to the main Tesco thread about the situation in Prestatyn where it took 15 years for Tesco to get planning permission approved.

He reiterated that the site is not compliant for retail use because it is outside the District Centre and that a large supermarket would have to prove 'sequentiality' ie that there was not an alternative site within the District Centre.
That's a very interesting and potentially significant bit of new information, catwoman - surely there's a good chance of a supermarket chain being able to argue that in Marple?
