" Q:Why are you doing this? surely its time to move with the times and embrace the new supermarket.
A: Marple is one of the few villages that still has a village atmosphere, with one Central shopping street which is full of small, friendly shops. If a supermarket were to be built it would kill this atmosphere."

Marple doesn't have a village atmosphere, it has 23,000 residents for heavens sake. The road I live on, I don't know neighbours who live more than 4 doors away. And there is already a supermarket in Marple, the Co-op - presumably that is what has killed the village atmosphere!
I am very bored with these message boards at the moment, there are lots of hysterical postings about a few facts and a lot of speculation.

The Coop has always been in MARPLE  Helen Wintersons was a furniture store Coop. We Had a Coop Fish Shop where M&co is  we had a Coop butchers and a Coop store and lots of other Coop trades which I am struggling to remember.   You could say the Coop has less shops now than it once did MARPLE has always had the Co-op for maybe 150 years  every one in MARPLE had a divi number and collected their points  and as children if we didn't give the divi number when shopping for our parents we were in real trouble when we got home  :'(

there was a coop in marple bridge now flats the stone work saying coop is still there was   allso a coop in compstall .facing the cricket ground  or next to the george . now empty .look on virtual tours photo someware

Apologises for dragging this thread it, but I'm determind not to see it slide into the depths of the forum, as its useful.

Q: Had the planners actually had a meeting prior to the MIA meeting in the park?
A: Despite what the planning official said, his good friend the college landed him in it, because it turns out that He had actually had a meeting with the college approximately 2 weeks before hand.

Q: is there anywere I can view the latest news on this forum?
A: YES! Head over here Please note this is the exact same news as on the website, just in a more condensed list.

Q: Do you have some examples of letters I can send to various parties to express my concern in the sale of the site?
A: YES! here Be sure however to change the letter(s) a Little bit, so that they look individual!

Q: can I post arguments to the posts on the this thread on this thread (now theres a tounge twister for ya!)
A: No, i'd prefer if you didn't as it just clutters things up. However, if you want to say something to me about this thread You can PM me! Please keep everything else in the tesco/asda thread located Here

Many of us believe this will be different for several reasons - e.g. 1) it could be BIG - £12m worth - and sell everything. Toys, clothes, hardware, camping stuff - you name it. 2) I's not in the village centre. Once people park in Asda/Tesco, they probably won't walk into Marple Centre. This is why I for one am against it.

General Q/A
« Reply #1 on: August 08, 2011, 02:33:28 PM »
This is a general Q/A, so you don't have to trawl through every post out there to find some answers to simple questions :)

Q: Do we know that the college is going sell the site?
A: Yes! via various FOI requests it is obvious that the college is going to sell the site.

Q:Do you know who is going to buy the site?
A: No, although it will be a supermarket. Right now (08/08/2011) the contenders are tesco and ASDA.

Q:Why are you doing this? surely its time to move with the times and embrace the new supermarket.
A: Marple is one of the few villages that still has a village atmosphere, with one Central shopping street which is full of small, friendly shops. If a supermarket were to be built it would kill this atmosphere.

Q: Do you have any comparison as to how big the hibbert lane site is?
A: YES! here (made by yours truly). Please bear in mind however that if a supermarket gets permission to build on the site they will only be able to build on the current footprint of the college buildings.

Q: are there any covenants placed on the hibbert lane site?
A: Yes! they are as follows:
  • To pay an annual sum to the Public School at Marple of £1.00.
  • Not to erect on the said land any messuage fronting Hibbert Lane shown on the plan attached to the 1919 Conveyance (we do not have a copy of the plan) or fronting an intended Street of 12 yards wide also shown on the said plan on the same side of Hibbert Lane for a distance of 50 yards from such Lane of less yearly value than £27.00 or fronting Hibbert Lane on the north westerly side thereof of a less yearly value than £20.00.
  • Not to erect or suffer to be erected on such part of the land adjoining Macclesfield Canal any Mill Manufactory or any building to be used as trade works.
  • Leave open and unbuilt upon the spaces of 6 yards to form the halves of the said intended Street off Hibbert Lane and also another intended Street of 12 yards off Church Lane.
  • here is an obligation to contribute to one half of the expense of forming paving, flagging, draining and sewering the intended Streets.

Q: Whats a covenant?
A: It means a agreement or promise

Q: does the local authority have any rights to the land usage?
A: yes, the local authority has the right to:
1- use parts of the Hibbert Lane site for purposes of providing adult education
2- use the leisure centre situated within the Hibbert Lane Site
3- use the Youth Club situated within the Hibbert lane Site

Q: how can I get involved?
A: You can attend protest meetings and Marches, you can put up posters, along with a hole host of other things! For more infomation on how you can get involved please visit http://www.marple-uk.com/marple-in-action/index.htm

Q: Is there a facebook page I can "like"?
A: yep! http://www.facebook.com/marpleinaction

Q: When is the next meeting/march?
A: The next march is planned for the 20th august 2011.

If you have anything you want me to add PM me and I'll and it in a post below!
