Maple did look like a very lawless place, with all the fry posters being illegally put up on lump posts, and the big banner on public land (most likely without the needed planning permissions) at the bottom of Dans Bank.

The one time I have tired recently to use the shops in Marple, in was make clear that I was not welcome in Marple if I was not one of the “good people”  that had the time to do all my shopping in small local shops.

Evan Marple Park was not very nice as a person was shouting about stopping the supermarket so not allowing us to enjoy the park.

So if that is what a possible house buyer has seen of Maple, I am not surprised they are now looking elsewhere.
Even the local MP is supporting the people that are defacing our roads with fry posters; it may well reflect how I vote next time.

Blimey, you make Marple sound like a veritable cesspit of reprobates!!

this is an interesting reaction to the events; I would think that plenty other people would assume, that the opposition to the potential supermarket represents a great community spirit in action as opposed to inert population. Maybe your buyers were looking into forcing you to reduce the price of your property?

Seems that some like to have their say without the full knowledge of what it's about.

I suppose not, but a very large personal blow. And I was really shocked at their reason.

Sounds more like an excuse to me. I hope you find some less neurotic buyers soon!!

Have just been told by some prospective buyers of my house that they have decided not to move to Marple (or should I say MARPLE?) due to all the hassle about supermarkets. They would have been quite happy to have had a tesco / Asda / whatever, and were very impressed by the variety of local shops, but are concerened about the hype and hysteria of the place. Their words not mine. So thats the death knoll for selling your house then, people from out of the area google "marple", find the website, check out the forums, and realise that there is insanity here. Thank you.

That's not a particularly large sample of opinions to reach that conclusion.
