Have a look through the BBC's list at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/30_12_11newyears2012.pdf.
Can't find anybody from Marple, Romiley or Stockport.
For Manchester there were 3 academics (including two Nobel Laureates), a couple of JP's, several from local government, a philanthropist, a children's outreach worker ... oh, and also a "Partnership Manager" at TESCO and 3 (yes THREE) people who work for the Tax Office.
I was hoping to find a local worthy individuals, but as above could only find a few employees of HMRC, (job for the boys!) locally and that's national as I scrawled the whole of the list (nothing better to do) and there's quite a few from that department, must change my career!!
I found a few fairly local folk on the list.
