True, most will spend it on drugs.

When I was a lad the incentive to get an education was errr to get an education. To finance my indulgences I had a paper round, sold black market computer games, organised club nights at the local dicoteque, sold special interest publications to my peers, did a few evenings at Tesco & played a bit of football.

If kids don't have to try, they'll not value what they achieve.

So you are now accusing the likes of my daughter and her fellow peers to spend all the EMA they receive on drugs?
As previously stated she spent the £10 EMA money on a bus pass to get to college not for her indulgences. So you would rather she participate in the criminal activity of selling black market computer games to fund her education.
God only knows what the special interest magazines were that you sold? Was it "The beginner's guide to self righteousness"

"They have the EMA at the moment, they don't have to do any work to suplement their lifestyle. It should all change when the government abolish it. "

EMA isnt payable any more, and all the students I know all have part time jobs to supplement their life style, and those that havent try hard to get one!

That's good to hear, I think the EMA led to students who were not prepared for the work environment.
And here am I thinking that EMA was to encourage kids from lower income families to go to college to help them get better educated and ultimately leading to better job prospects, rather than signing on the dole!!! I stand corrected.

Good for you Jethro, it was a total waste of taxpayer's money and encouraged laziness. If students need a little bit of extra cash, a paper-round will help.
So paying kids dole money to lie in bed all day is a better use of taxpayer's money, rather than giving kids a some encouragement to further their education. My daughter got £10 a week which she  used to pay for a bus pass to travel to college and to a part time job at weekends. So that is what you class as lazy!!!
Not all kids will go and spend the money on booze etc.

Students

They must have more money than I did when I was one.
